A quality engineer, also known as a QA or QC engineer, ensures the quality of products and processes throughout their development and manufacturing. Their duties include:
- Reviewing plans: Quality engineers review design plans, procedures, and manuals to understand the requirements of products.
Ensuring quality: They make sure products meet quality and integrity requirements, and that they are safe and reliable.- Identifying problems: They analyze problems and potential problems in products and processes.
Developing testing methods: They develop new testing methods to measure product quality, or adjust existing ones to meet new requirements.
- Recommending solutions: They recommend and implement corrective measures to fix problems.
Analyzing data: They analyze data to identify trends in product quality and defects.- Maintaining production: They work to keep the production process efficient and cost-effective.
Liaising with teams: They work with engineering, production, and customer teams to uncover quality issues.
- Creating documentation: They create documentation on quality and safety.
Quality engineers typically work a standard 9-5, 40-hour work week, but some manufacturers may require them to work outside of these hours.
