Job Description

A purchasing manager, also known as a procurement manager, isresponsible for the purchasing and procurement of materials and services for a company.Their responsibilities include:

  • Procurement strategies:Developing and implementing strategies to optimize costs, maintain quality, and reduce supply chain risks
  • Supplier evaluation:Identifying and evaluating potential suppliers, and negotiating contracts
  • Inventory management:Analyzing demand patterns and forecasting future needs to avoid shortages or excesses
  • Quality assurance:Ensuring the quality and compliance of procured goods
  • Staff management:Planning and overseeing the work of buyers and purchasing agents, and hiring and training new staff
  • Recordkeeping:Maintaining and implementing purchasing and recordkeeping systems
  • Budgeting:Administering the departmental budget
  • Documentation:Preparing proposals and detailed documentation of purchases and inventories
  • Reporting:Tracking and reporting operating metrics to identify areas that need improvement
