Position Overview:The Primary Resource Teacher (PRT) Computer Teacher is responsible for teaching basic computer skills and digital literacy to students at the primary level. This role involves creating and delivering age-appropriate lessons that introduce young learners to the fundamentals of computer science, internet safety, and digital tools, fostering an early interest and proficiency in technology.
Curriculum Development:- Develop and implement a curriculum that covers essential computer skills, including keyboarding, basic software applications, internet use, and digital literacy.
Ensure lessons are aligned with educational standards and cater to the learning needs of primary school students.- Incorporate fun and interactive teaching methods to engage young learners.
Classroom Instruction:- Teach students the basics of computer operations, including how to use operating systems, word processors, presentation software, and educational applications.
Introduce fundamental concepts of programming, coding, and problem-solving through age-appropriate activities.- Promote responsible and safe use of the internet, emphasizing the importance of online safety and digital citizenship.
Provide individualized support to students to help them understand and apply concepts.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
Assess students progress through assignments, quizzes, and practical tasks.- Provide constructive feedback to help students improve their computer skills.
Maintain records of student performance and prepare reports for parents and school administration.
Manage and maintain the computer lab, ensuring that all equipment is functional, up-to-date, and safe for student use.- Organize and oversee the use of educational software and online resources.
Plan and request the purchase of necessary hardware, software, and other digital resources.
- Extracurricular Activities:
Support and supervise computer-related extracurricular activities such as coding clubs or tech projects.- Organize or participate in school-wide events that promote technology use, such as digital literacy weeks or tech fairs.
Professional Development:- Stay updated with the latest developments in educational technology and primary education.
Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to enhance teaching skills and integrate new tools and methods into the curriculum.Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with other teachers to integrate computer skills into various subjects.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to discuss students progress and address any concerns.
Participate in school meetings and contribute to the development of school-wide technology policies.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Education with a specialization in computer teaching.- Certification or diploma in teaching, particularly at the primary level, is preferred.
Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals, educational software, and basic programming.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with young children.
Patience, creativity, and a passion for teaching technology to young learners.
Classroom and computer lab setting, involving the use of computers, projectors, and other technology.- Interaction with young students, teachers, and parents.
May require oversight of computer-related activities outside of regular school hours.
