JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Product Engineer
Reports To: GM - Application engineering
Role Type: Individual Contributor
Location: Bangalore/Mysore
Purpose of the role:
To technically lead the development of new products or the launch of existing products lines variants, according to customer requirements, in line with cost-effective manufacturing process and according to projects timeline. To create, improve, consolidate and make available product knowledge, design guidelines, and engineering tools.
Job Responsibilities
Key Activities:
- To support the development of new products or the incremental improvement of the existing ones.
- To support the development of Engineering
- Tools Accountabilities:
- PDP execution within NMO
- New products design guidelines sign off.
- Drive activities with R&D center
Key Activities:
- To support the development of new variants of existing product lines
- To support technical discussion with Customers (with or without Application Engineering)
- To support STA and Quality Departments in technical discussions with suppliers.
- Accountabilities:
- Responsible of PDP tasks within ETO
- Coordination, supervision and support of other technical department during PDP process steps (design, prototype and testing) in a way the activities match with the project timing, quality level and the required technical specifications
- Drawing Creation and Sign off (including customer drawing in case AE not available)
- CAE Reports creation and sign OFF
- Component level DFMEA creation and development
- Participate to System and Sub system level DFMEA creation and development
- To create DV&V Plans when Application Engineer is not available
- To execute DV&V Plans
- To prepare and release DV and PV reports
Operations
Key Activities:
- To create and release of CAD Data set of designed products by handling them through PLM system, and according to DRD / ECM
- To verify design by CAE
- To create, update and release design tools.
- To Execute Engineering Changes Tasks
- To Perform constant market analysis of competing products to determine and establish customer needs and requirements.
- To cooperate with the field return resolution team in detecting failure modes and improve future products
- To cooperate with Manufacturing Quality for the definition of defect atlas.
- To create technical training packages
Accountabilities:
- Product Data Management
- To coordinate field return analysis and sign-off of Investigation reports for customers
- To coordinate Benchmarking activities
- To record and share lesson learned
- People
- Key Activities:
- To train and actively coach technicians and trainees
- Supervise trainees
- To contribute to the development of the department personnel through company processes or direct feedback
Processes & Regulations
Key Activities:
- To contribute to the maintenance and improvements of working instructions and tools
Accountabilities:
To work in compliance with Quality Management System, EHS Procedures and meeting SKF Behavioral drivers.
Technical/Professional Skills
In depth knowledge of mechanical engineering,
In depth knowledge of sealing technology and designs
Knowledge of sealing materials and their characteristics (thermoplastic elastomers, rubbers, high performance plastics)
Understanding of Automotive and general machinery applications.
Hard Skills needs:
- Ability to read and understand, and create a mechanical drawing
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance standards e.g. ISO/TC 213 (ISO 8015:2011 Geometric Product Specifications) / ASME Y14.5 1M-2009
- Capability in using CAD, CAE, PLM Tools
- Knowledge of testing Techniques and Reliability Basics
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- DFSS tools
- Presentation and Report Writing
- Fluent in English (CEFR B2 Upper Intermediate, Cambridge B2 First) or higher
- GPM2 Principles and Tools (PPM or similar)
- SKF S&P knowledge.
- Proficient use of Microsoft tools (Office 365)
Soft Skills needs:
Interpersonal skills (listening, positive attitude, empathy, communication, teamwork, conflicts resolution, negotiation, leadership), problem solving, flexibility, presentation skills.
Education & Experience
- Minimum qualification is bachelor's degree in mechanical or industrial engineering stream.
- 6-9 years of relevant experience.
- Other qualifications shall be accepted if relevant experience and knowledge level can be proven
