Responsibility -
Strategic Leadership
- Strategic Visionary: Drive the overall product design strategy, aligning with the startup's mission, the Indian market, user needs, and principles of product psychology. Leverage UX research insights to inform this strategic direction.
- User Experience Champion: Conduct user research (interviews, surveys, usability testing), analyze data, and distill insights to guide user-centered product development.
- Process Optimization: Refine design processes, introduce tools, and champion methodologies to streamline workflows, enhance collaboration, and drive efficiency. Integrate strategies from books like Hooked, Atomic Habits, and Thinking, Fast and Slow to create engaging, habit-forming products.
- Team Mentorship: Guide, mentor, and elevate the performance of UI/UX designers, providing constructive feedback and fostering their professional development.
- Design System Governance: Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a robust design system, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability across our products.
End-to-End Design Ownership
- Outcome-Focused Design: Leverage data, user research, and analytics to identify and prioritize design improvements that positively impact key product metrics. Transform complex user needs and business goals into clear problem statements for the product team to understand and address effectively.
- Holistic Experience Design: Oversee the creation of user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs that ensure optimal usability, functionality, and visual appeal.
- Content Design & Microcopy: Play a role in crafting clear, concise, and user-friendly content within the product interface. This could involve writing microcopy for buttons, error messages, or user onboarding content.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product owner, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure seamless alignment, efficient handoffs, and effective design implementation.
- Drive design evolution: Continuously evaluate existing products, iterate based on feedback, and integrate the latest design trends and technologies while maintaining strong Indian market context.
- Product Team Collaborator: Work alongside product owner to define product requirements, roadmaps, and to prioritize features that address user needs.
- Efficient Use of Resources: Be mindful of budget constraints and develop design solutions that are not only beautiful and effective but also optimize resources and are efficient to implement.
- Lean Design Strategies: Explore lean design approaches, such as rapid prototyping and iterative improvement cycles, to validate product features quickly and maximize results.
- Localization & Accessibility Specialist: Design for inclusivity, consider diverse users, adapt visual style and language for optimal user experience, and incorporate insights from The Design of Everyday Things and Emotional Design to create products with strong cross-cultural appeal.
Specific Tasks that Support the Lead Product Designer
- Understanding Users Deeply: Plan and conduct diverse UX research (interviews, surveys, usability testing, etc.) to uncover user JTBD, needs, behaviors, pain points, and motivations.
- Behavioral Design Strategist: Stay updated on product psychology and design best practices through books and courses, applying these learnings and UX research to optimize user experiences.
- Market & Competitive Research: Conduct in-depth analysis of competitors, industry trends, and emerging design patterns to continuously inspire and evolve product design strategies.
- Strategic Ideation & Execution: Translate high-level product strategy into detailed design execution plans, collaborating with the team to deliver innovative user experiences.
- Usability Testing: Support in planning and conducting usability testing, analyze results, and identify areas for improvement.
- Communication & Presentation: Clearly articulate and present design rationale, solutions, and potential impact to stakeholders, fostering buy-in.

- Previous experience in a B2C environment is preferred, with a deep understanding of consumer-centric design principles.
