The Solutions, Platforms, Technologies and NPI group within Solar Turbines (Gas Turbine Package Engineering) is on the front line of developing new, innovative products that are crucial to the success of customers in a wide range of Industries. We are looking for a motivated, creative, out of the box thinking, Design Engineer to work in a fast-paced engineering environment using the agile development process to see Solar experience profitable growth and make our customers successful.
What You Will Do:
A thorough understanding of the Turbomachinery Subsystems is highly desirable. Responsibilities in this key role spans from conceptual system design to providing functional, easily manufactured, and tested hydro-mechanical systems. This includes component design or selection to ensure the safe and reliable operation of new equipment. Duties include interpreting product and project requirements, as well as the
development of product specific Process & Instrumentation Diagrams . This position requires work in multiple systems engineering areas including design analysis, cost reduction, supplier interfaces, product quality troubleshooting as well as the development and understanding and application of new technologies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are imperative. Additional responsibilities include supporting field personnel during commissioning and installation of our equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree
- 7+ years of Hydromechanical design experience
- Extensive expertise in theory and design of turbomachinery subsystems
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience with hydro-mechanical systems applications, design, and operations, as well as the following skills:
- Working knowledge of computer aided design & drafting CADD system (Promise-e preferred, AutoCAD, alternate P&ID Software's).
- Understanding of purpose and function of each hydromechanical system: fuel, start, lube, air, compressor seal, fire and gas detection, enclosure ventilation, and all other package systems that support gas turbine and driven equipment operation.
- Attention to detail concerning component specifications, certifications, and documentation.
- Good understanding of fluid flow/pressure/velocity in pipes and tubing (compressible and incompressible flows) in an open system and associated calculations.
- Understanding of pump theories and calculations.
- Field service experience commissioning and servicing packages as FSR desired
- A good understanding of manufacturing and testing processes
- Experience with Creo and Matlab or other Simulation/Modeling tools
- Knowledge of controls, gas turbine operations, and driven equipment
- A sense of urgency and organizational skills are required to work with multiple projects and competing priorities.
