A Day in the Life
Within Global Operations & Supply Chain - Information Technology (GOSC IT) team, we are looking for an IT Portfolio Lead.
The Project Portfolio Lead/ Manager aligns long-term strategic goals with tactical plans and operational execution in the journey from As-Is state to To-Be state while optimizing resources and partner collaboration to drive efficiency, mitigate risks, and deliver high-impact projects that support Medtronic's business objectives.
The portfolio manager's governance responsibility involves a continuous, iterative cycle to ensure projects remain aligned with strategic goals, deliver expected benefits, follow optimized processes, and are executed with excellence. Regular evaluation and improvement of these areas enable adaptive governance, keeping the portfolio responsive to evolving business needs and priorities.

- Shaping the portfolio by collaborating with Plan, Build and Run leaders to strategically prioritize high-impact projects and ensure that the portfolio aligns with overall business strategy, corporate objectives, and long-term vision
- Engage project managers and functional teams to understand the operational feasibility, and resource needs, ensuring realistic planning and execution.
- Collaborate with architects and technical leads to ensure the alignment of technology architecture with the broader business objectives and support future scalability and innovation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and project managers to identify risks and develop risk mitigation plans, ensuring effective issue management
- Develop and manage the IT budget (capital and operational expenditures) required to implement the business and technology strategy
- Monitor and guide the IT Project Intake, Planning, and Delivery process to ensure projects are appropriately defined, planned, prioritized, funded, resourced, managed, and governed to successfully deliver on commitments, achieving intended outcomes, on time and within budget.

- Drive adoption, use, and constant data quality of the MDT IT Project Management tool and Medtronic Delivery Framework (MDF) methodologies as well as other compliance and regulatory policies.
- Ensure proper resource planning and allocation across projects, optimizing the use of people, budgets, and technology for maximum effectiveness.
- Work closely with project managers to monitor partner performance and ensure that the teams are aligned in delivering the expected outcomes.
- Assess the performance of both internal and partner-delivered resources, and drive continuous improvement in project execution and resource deployment.
- Monitor adherence to project lifecycles, from initiation to closure, ensuring governance at each stage.
- Periodically conduct process reviews to ensure deliverables and documentation meet the defined quality standards
- Implement strategies to optimize costs, reduce duplication of efforts, and enhance collaboration across project teams and partners.
Getting them done well
- Oversee the performance of in-flight projects to ensure steady progress towards achieving the long-term strategic objectives
- Communicate portfolio status, challenges, and successes to the key stakeholders through regular cadence meetings.
- Provide strategic oversight for dependencies and opportunities both within and across IT project portfolios, including development of operational reports
- Support and coach project managers to ensure on-time delivery, within budget, with high quality results
- Engage with other Portfolio Leaders across GOSC to optimize and shape common practices and align to Global Portfolio Operations (GPO) processes
- Conduct regular health checks on projects to evaluate progress, risks, issues, and team dynamics, facilitating early intervention if necessary.
Getting The Benefits
- Continuously measure the portfolio performance through key KPIs and identify the actual benefits delivered against the projected outcomes, ensuring that the portfolio remains focused on value realization aligned with strategic objectives and timelines.
- Partner with IT Finance to capture the total cost of providing technology services, improve processes related to budgeting and forecasting, to increase cost transparency, and demonstrate business value
- Proactively share success stories and key performance insights with leadership, to celebrate significant accomplishments within the portfolio
The candidate will ensure adherence to all Corporate and IT policies and standards and is responsible for effectively managing the constraints of portfolio management including but not limited to: Project Status compliance, Project Schedule compliance, SAP Financial integration, Financial Planning Details As a IT Portfolio Lead, the candidate will provide technical and analytical guidance and recommendations to leadership governance bodies, project communication & reporting, and keep current on advances and best practices in project management methodologies. The candidate will supervised projects assigned. As IT Portfolio Lead, the candidate will communicate primarily and frequently with IT Leaders
Key Responsibilities:
- Shape the portfolio to ensure alignment with the organization's strategic business objectives, maximizing value realization.
- Oversee and guide projects/programs to ensure on-time, on-budget, and high-quality delivery while managing risks and issues.
- Direct and lead a portfolio engaged in global initiatives, ensuring the successful completion of key milestones and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure efficient resource allocation and execution by coordinating with project managers and external partners, optimizing the use of internal and external resources.
- Demonstrate strong portfolio management skills in areas such as schedule management, financial forecasting, resource allocation, scope definition, and change management, ensuring effective governance and execution.
Experience Level:
Must Have:
- 14-17 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 12+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience working in a highly regulated environment (e.g., FDA, EMA).
- Experience working in IT or Engineering leading application development projects.
- 5+ years of experience collaborating with global stakeholders and business partners.
Good to Have:
- Experience using Project management systems (e.g., PlanView, PlanisWare, MS Project Server/PPM) and various project methodologies like Waterfall, Hybrid, Agile/Scrum.
- Experience in implementing digital manufacturing technologies in MedTech domain, driving improvements in operations excellence and supply chain visibility.
- Strong understanding of Technology Architecture and Enterprise Architecture methodologies
- Exposure to digital technologies like AI/ ML and Gen AI
Skill Required
Must Have:
- Highly fluent in English speaking & writing.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Financial acumen in managing complex program/project budgets.
- Able to perform highly complex work activities covering technical, financial, and quality.
