Role Summary :
We are seeking to recruit an ambitious and dynamic Principal Engineer for our Highways and Drainage iCRC team to work alongside our ME manager and local Team Leader to lead on the technical outputs of the team with a skill-set concentrated in either drainage or highways, The iCRC team will provide a detailed design service in the area of drainage, highway and public realm (external works) design for both adoptable and private infrastructure
Responsibilities :
Your principal role will be day to day design management, carry out concept studies and strategies with hands on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawings.
You can expect to be active on a number of projects/client accounts at any given time.
You will be supported by a team of technical staff of various grades.
The position will also involve internal client liaison, assisting in the preparation of fee proposals and technical control of projects when acting as a package design manager.

The position will report to a Team Leader and ME Manager.
You will be responsible for ensuring your projects are delivered to budget, programme and technical
Conduct required checks and reviews of own teams designs
Provide regular work status updates, including risks or concerns, to line manager or ME Manager
Support ME manager in planning resource needs and escalate as required if there are resource concerns
Provide feedback to line manager on the team's performance and development requirements
Support the companies approach to sustainability
Contribute to the delivery of the business unit strategy.
Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance WSP ME service to clients
Feedback on all business development opportunities
Contribute to succession planning and career development across their team
Input into the recruitment and selection process
Ensure the right resources are utilised effectively at the right time across their team and projects
Focus on the delivery of the technical design drawings and specifications to the required regulations and quality standards
Provide technical solutions on projects
Initiate and participate in design peer reviews in alignment with the QMS system
Standards and meet QA, CDM, Sustainability and HSE requirements.
Key Competencies / Skills:
Mandatory Skills :
You will have a good knowledge of planning, design, design software, technical consents, and contract procedures for the provision of sewers, highways and utilities in new developments and regeneration projects and know how, if applied effectively, these skills combine to add value to a client's development proposal. You will also have a robust knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
Probably from a consultancy or government agency design background you will have a proven record in excellent technical delivery and team leadership.
Desired Skills :
You will be experienced in delivering design solutions fully compliant with appropriate codes of practice and specifications and be prepared to gain a thorough understanding of the relevant ME design codes such as Sewers for Adoption, Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, and Local Authority Design Guides.
You will be well versed in the preparation of drawings for legal adoption and technical approvals, Contract Documents.
You will need to have good written and spoken communication skills and be aware of current and emerging technical and planning guidance on climate change and sustainability.
You will be able to direct and check the use of relevant 3-dimensional design software such as Civil 3D or MX.
Qualifications :
You will have substantial post graduate (or equivalent) experience and either have been awarded Chartered status (CEng, MICE, MIHT or MCIWEM), have equivalent international qualification, or have equivalent commercial experience and responsibility.
You should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of and experience in highway and/or drainage design as well as a wide knowledge of the Development Industry.
