Role Summary
The Principal Engineer Maritime Geotechnical Engineer role is to conduct and lead the assessment and reporting of all aspects of Marine Geotechnical consultancy work. The role will be to support the Middle East Ground Engineering Team. On occasion the consultant may be required to travel to the site to assist with Ground Engineering surveys.
Responsibilities
- Support the Middle East Ground Engineering Team in the delivery of Maritime Geotechnical consultancy projects to private and public sector clients;
- From a project management perspective, the candidate will have a management and delivery role in the provision of guidance and assistance to internal and external clients, regarding Maritime geotechnical related issues.
- Manage and produce technical reports and Maritime geotechnical design calculations to support the client and project team throughout the different project stages.
- Manage and design of geotechnical site investigations including recommendations for best intrusive techniques to be employed and specification of in-situ and laboratory testing.
- Lead in the procurement of site investigation contractors.
- Undertake scheduling of geotechnical and chemical testing and interpretation of the test results.
- Supervision of ground investigation site activities.
- Conduct and lead the interpretation of geotechnical ground models and design parameters for their use in the maritime geotechnical design.
- Review of factual and interpretative geotechnical reports produced by others.
- Lead production of geotechnical factual and interpretative reports including the interpretation of geotechnical data for maritime projects.
- Lead provision of maritime geotechnical engineering recommendations related to appropriate foundation systems and ground improvement techniques for maritime structures.
- Manage and produce technical specifications for Enabling, Shoring, Excavation, Ground improvement and Piling works.
- Review of tender returns and tender evaluations for enabling, shoring and piling works.
- Perform axial and lateral pile capacity assessments and bearing capacity calculations.
- Undertake slope stability assessments and settlement analysis.
- Perform liquefaction assessment and design.
- Review and approve the design and assessment of foundations, substructure, and retaining/shoring walls.
- Lead in the delivery and management of geotechnical analysis including deep and shallow foundation design, slope stability calculations, liquefaction assessments, embedded retaining and shoring walls and quay walls; pile design, ground movement assessments, evaluation of soil springs for use within structural design models and soil structure interaction using recognised international geotechnical software and preferably finite element software.
- Good knowledge of all the relevant Eurocodes and British standards applicable to maritime structures.
- Knowledge of construction techniques and buildability of maritime structures.
- Provide support to the preparation of technical and commercial proposals for standalone Marine Ground Engineering opportunities and contributing to multi-disciplinary bids;
- Ensure WSP Quality Management System (QMS) and Project Lifecycle compliance on all projects;
- Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies;
- Actively develop expertise and stay abreast of developments in relevant technical field;
- Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance WSP ME service to clients;
- Cross functioning among other disciplines as and when required;

- The successful candidate should have strong maritime geotechnical engineering design and ground characterization skills. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to demonstrate his/her knowledge and experience during the interview process. The selection process will prioritize candidates with proven design experience over site supervision or in-situ testing witnessing experience.

Desired Skills
- Knowledge of the following Geotechnical Software (as many as possible): PLAXIS 2D, PLAXIS 3D, ROCSCIENCE, GEO-SLOPE, PDISP, REPUTE, WALLAP, AutoCad, ROCLAB, STONE-C, LIQ-IT, GRLWEAP, ArcGIS or QGIS.
Qualifications

- 10+ years of experience working in the Maritime Geotechnical field;
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, and proven ability to communicate results orally and in writing;
- Bachelor's degree in geotechnical or geo-science related field and have at least 10+ years post graduate experience in the Maritime Geotechnical discipline. Post Graduate Degree preferred.
- Membership of the ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) (or similar organisation);
- A willingness to travel to overseas countries within the region, mainly UAE and KSA.
- Site investigation techniques with experience in supervising field investigation works a distinct advantage.
