Job Overview:
The Principal Construction Spec is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex construction-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Construction Spec may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Construction. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in Construction as well as broad knowledge of the Construction discipline within the Onshore Construction function.
Responsibilities
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire onshore construction process, including planning, scheduling, and execution, ensuring that all projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to quality and safety standards
- Coordinate/assist discipline supervision and subcontractors develop Construction Execution Plans
- Serve as the primary point of contact with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, providing regular updates and addressing any concerns or issues that arise
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize project performance, such as reducing costs, improving efficiency, and enhancing delivery times
- Manage a team of construction engineers, ensuring that they are properly trained, motivated, and resourced to complete their work effectively and efficiently
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory and environmental requirements, and maintain a strong focus on sustainability and ethical practices
- Coordinate/assist supervisors and subcontractors develop and maintain Six-Week Look-Ahead Plans
- Coordinate/assist supervisors, General Foremen, and Subcontractors prepare Weekly Work Plans
- Assist supervisors and subcontractors in implementing the Weekly Work Planning Program
- Monitor Field construction activities to ensure compliance with Weekly Work Plans
- Ensure Six Week Look-Ahead Plans and Weekly Work Plans continuously address Project Schedule requirements
- Support Construction Management with Construction Planning, and performance data
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- At least 7 to 10 years of experience in onshore construction, with a focus on EPCI projects
- Deep knowledge of EPCI industry practices, procedures, and regulations, particularly in the oil and gas or energy sectors
- Strong leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage large and complex projects
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in clear and concise terms
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, fostering a culture of inclusion and respect
- Proficiency in project management tools and software, such as Primavera, Microsoft Project, or equivalent
- Proficient in utilizing construction software and tools, such as project management platforms, drone technology, and 3D modeling software
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality, with a track record of delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of excellence
- Proven ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously
