Role Overview:
The Plant Head Manufacturing & Operations will be responsible for leading the transformation of our largely unstructured, bespoke manufacturing setup into a best-in-class, process-oriented facility. Given that a significant portion of our production is handcrafted, establishing systematic processes and leveraging technology will be critical in modernizing operations. You will oversee production, fabrication, and overall plant management, ensuring the highest quality standards and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
- Drive the transformation of the current manual, handcraft-driven production environment into a technology-driven, efficient manufacturing operation.
- Establish best practices, systematic workflows, and standardized processes to streamline operations while retaining the bespoke, handcrafted quality of products.
- Implement performance dashboards, data-driven tools, and technology to monitor key metrics and enhance production efficiency.
2. Operational Management:
- Oversee all facets of production, from raw material procurement to final product assembly, packing, and dispatch.
- Manage a largely handcraft-based fabrication setup, ensuring that the quality and customization of bespoke products are maintained while optimizing timelines and processes.
- Lead the sub-departments including fabrication, finishing, assembly, and logistics to ensure efficient plant operations and timely project completion.
3. Process & Technology Implementation:
- Implement modern manufacturing processes and introduce automation where applicable, while preserving the unique craftsmanship involved in bespoke lighting production.
- Establish real-time reporting tools and dashboards for daily, weekly, and monthly performance tracking.
- Drive the use of technology to minimize delays, improve resource allocation, and create a more structured manufacturing environment.
4. Team Leadership & Development:
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing production and operations team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure proper manpower allocation and skill development to meet the evolving needs of a technology-driven production facility.
- Lead efforts to enhance cross-department collaboration and communication.
5. Quality Control & Client Satisfaction:
- Develop and enforce rigorous quality control processes to ensure that handcraft-driven products meet the highest standards.
- Maintain a defect rate of less than 2% and work towards continuous quality improvement.
- Collaborate with the Client Satisfaction team to ensure that client expectations are met, and deliveries are aligned with quality benchmarks.
6. Vendor & Resource Management:
- Build strong vendor relationships for timely material procurement, ensuring uninterrupted production.
- Manage inventory, HR, security, and store operations to ensure seamless plant functioning.
- Optimize resource utilization to balance handcrafted production demands with efficient resource allocation.
7. Reporting & Communication:
- Regularly update the COO and senior management on production progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Implement thorough reporting systems, leveraging digital tools to keep management updated on performance metrics and production status.
- Utilize technology for remote coordination and communication across management teams.
Key Success KPIs:
- Achieve 95% on-time delivery with a minimum target of 70%.
- Reduce product defect rate to below 2%.
- Improve overall production efficiency by 10% within the first year.
- Establish a systematic, technology-enhanced production workflow without compromising on handcrafted quality.
Candidate Profile:
- Proven experience (10+ years) as a Plant Head, Manufacturing Head, or similar roles in production or operations, preferably in handcrafted manufacturing or industries with bespoke products (lighting, furniture, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to lead transformation initiatives in an unstructured or manual production setup.
- Strong understanding of technology implementation in manufacturing environments.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage large teams and complex operations.
