Gujarat Cement Works is one of the single largest cement plants with installed capacity to produce 5 million MT clinker per annum employing approximately 599 people. It manufactures a range of premium brand of cement for Export market. The plant consists of 2 lines currently producing 8200 and 7800 tpd of clinker.
The Kovaya limestone mine is a captive mine for Gujarat cement works. Total mining lease area is 953.32 hectares out of which around 85 hectares is under coastal regulatory zone, which can not be mined. The lease area is surrounded by five villages and very sensitive basically due to crop .Thus at Kovaya mine conventional as well as Surface miner used for extraction of 7.2 million MT limestone per annum. Surface miner does not require drilling & blasting, an eco-friendly mining method and also it allows winning limestone up to the lease boundary. Being a shallow deposit and high demand, the area of excavation is very large in comparison to other mines. The deposit is h
eterogenous in nature and marginal grade. Thus quality control as well as conservation of mineral is the critical operation at this mine.The mine is situated at 3 Kms from plant and has total geological reserves of 392 million tonnes of limestone of which 199 million tonnes is waste/rejects. Usable reserves are at 193 million tonnes and usable balance reserves are 181 million tonnes at 101 LSF.
The life of the mines is 25 years. The mine is presently fully mechanised.
The position is responsible for Shift Mining Operations which includes crushing activities. The activity is divided into allocation of various resources like manpower, machinery,etc to derive optimum output from them to have cost effective mining. The job assumes great significance in view of the fact that the quantum of production is 23000 MT/Day and the marginal grade of limestone available with us.Major Challenges:
