Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage and optimize our mission-critical databases in a 24x7 environment with aggressive availability SLAs. You will be responsible for ensuring high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), performance tuning, security, and compliance on cloud environments, including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Microsoft Azure, and managed database services. The role will be performed remotely from an offshore location and will report to DBA IT Manager, working closely with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure seamless database operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the installation, configuration, and maintenance of databases in 24x7 production environments to meet aggressive availability SLAs.
- Design, implement, and manage high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions, including failover clusters, replication, and geo-redundancy to ensure maximum uptime.
- Conduct advanced performance tuning, query optimization, and resource management to ensure database systems perform efficiently under high traffic and load.
- Implement and manage database encryption, auditing, and access control policies to ensure data security and compliance with company security policies.
- Develop and execute robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans, including regular testing and verification of failover strategies.
- Proactively monitor database health, availability, capacity, and system performance using advanced monitoring tools to anticipate and prevent issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues to ensure minimal downtime and adherence to SLAs.
- Oversee the architecture and design of scalable databases for large, high-volume transactional systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
- Implement and manage automated database solutions for monitoring, patching, and capacity management in cloud and hybrid environments, including OCI and Azure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, network, security, and infrastructure) to ensure databases are optimized and aligned with business needs.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior DBAs, ensuring adherence to best practices in database management.
- Keep current with the latest database technologies, especially related to cloud infrastructure, managed database services, and security.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide emergency support to maintain critical database systems in 24x7 environments.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience as a database administrator, with proven expertise in managing Oracle and SQL Server environments, including cloud (OCI, Azure) and managed database services.
- Significant experience managing 24x7 production environments with aggressive SLAs and zero-downtime requirements.
- Strong expertise in high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and replication technologies, including Always on and Data Guard.
- Proficiency in performance tuning, index optimization, and troubleshooting bottlenecks in high-volume, mission-critical databases.
- Hands-on experience with database encryption, data masking, and securing sensitive data to meet regulatory compliance.
- Advanced knowledge of backup and recovery best practices, including automated solutions for cloud environments and regular disaster recovery testing.
- Expertise in cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Azure, and hybrid environments, with a focus on database architecture, migration, and scalability.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a track record of diagnosing and resolving critical database issues in high-pressure, 24x7 environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring junior DBAs.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting, demonstrating high accountability and self-discipline.
- Flexibility to work across time zones and adjust to changing business needs, including participation in on-call support.
Certifications:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Certified Architect
- ITIL certification
