Job Description

  1. NRW Strategy Development and Implementation
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive NRW reduction strategy, focusing on both technical and administrative measures.
    • Identify key areas of water loss, including physical (leakage) and commercial (metering inaccuracies or unauthorized connections) losses.
    • Create and maintain NRW management plans, including short-term and long-term targets for water loss reduction.
  2. Leak Detection and Management
    • Conduct regular field assessments and use leak detection tools (acoustic loggers and other advanced equipment, etc.) to identify and locate leaks within the water distribution network.
    • Prioritize leak repair based on severity and impact on water supply, working closely with field teams to ensure quick and effective repairs.
    • Document all leaks detected and repaired, maintaining detailed records to analyze trends and root causes.
  3. Metering and Data Analysis
    • Ensure the accuracy and functionality of bulk and consumer meters, implementing regular calibration and maintenance schedules.
    • Analyze water production vs. consumption data to identify discrepancies, focusing on areas with high NRW levels.
    • Utilize data analytics to evaluate patterns, identify areas of inefficiency, and recommend improvements in metering and billing processes.
  4. Pressure Management and Network Optimization
    • Implement pressure management strategies in high-pressure zones to reduce the likelihood of leakage and pipe bursts.
    • Monitor pressure levels across the distribution network, making adjustments as needed to balance water supply while minimizing strain on infrastructure.
    • Collaborate with hydraulic modeling teams to assess and optimize the distribution network design for efficient water flow.
  5. Water Audits and Loss Analysis
    • Conduct regular water audits to evaluate system performance and identify sources of non-revenue water.
    • Prepare detailed reports on audit findings, presenting recommendations for corrective actions to management and stakeholders.
    • Implement real-loss and apparent-loss reduction techniques based on audit results, continuously refining processes to improve NRW.
  6. Stakeholder Engagement and Training
    • Work closely with community representatives, local authorities, and other stakeholders to promote NRW reduction initiatives and encourage water conservation.
    • Conduct training sessions for field teams on leak detection, metering practices, and NRW management.
    • Engage with customers to improve meter reading accuracy, minimize unauthorized usage, and encourage timely reporting of leaks.
  7. Project Management and Reporting
    • Develop and manage NRW reduction projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
    • Track project milestones and provide regular reports to management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and overall progress toward NRW reduction goals.
    • Use performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of NRW initiatives and continually refine strategies based on data-driven insights.
  8. Technology and Innovation
    • Evaluate and implement advanced NRW management technologies, including remote sensing, GIS mapping, smart meters, and data analytics tools.
    • Keep updated on industry advancements and best practices, incorporating innovative solutions to enhance water conservation and loss reduction efforts.
    • Pilot new technologies or techniques as part of NRW reduction trials, providing analysis and feedback for broader adoption.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory guidelines related to water distribution and NRW management.
  • Experience working with water utilities, public works departments, or similar sectors.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, hydraulic modeling, and smart metering technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting technical information and working with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of water distribution networks, pressure management, metering, and leak detection.
  • Innovative approach to tackle NRW-related issues and implement sustainable solutions.
