Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a New Product Development Chef at Mount Meru Foods. The New Product Development Chef will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day tasks related to product development, including research and development, project management, and communication. The role will require hands-on culinary expertise and creative decision-making to develop new and innovative products that meet our standards of taste, nutrition, and convenience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Culinary Arts, Food Science, or a related field
- 2+ years experience in food manufacturing or similar environment preferred
- Analytical skills, including the ability to analyze market trends and consumer preferences
- Experience in research and development (R&D) within the food industry
- Expertise in product development, including recipe creation and flavor profiling
- In-depth knowledge of culinary techniques, ingredients, and food safety regulations and protocols
- Passion for food innovation and staying up-to-date with industry trends
- Experience working in a culinary role and familiarity with different cuisines
- Project management skills to ensure timely and successful product launches
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Senior Chef to craft new recipes for sauces, spreads, dips, and marinades and lead them from the concept and ideation phase into product trials and finally commercial production
- Independently experiment thoughtfully across ingredients, flavour profiles, and cuisines to create products that resonate with the market
- Collaborate with Food Technologist to select the appropriate ingredients and production processes with a goal to maximize shelf-life, and preserve quality across all crucial product parameters
- Execute and oversee the production of each batch with the ratios and proportions set forth in the recipes
- Collaborate across teams to discover, assess, and integrate new ingredients and processes that would optimize the quality, shelf-life, and cost of the product
- Prepare recipe samples as per specification for use in internal tastings, focus testing, lab analysis, and reformulation
- Digitally document, in a chronological order, the recipes created during trials, final recipes, and additional changes/improvements to existing recipes
- Conduct quality checks and contamination screening on each new batch of raw material to ensure that it matches the set standard
- Maintain and drive awareness of market trends, customer tastes, and product opportunities to identify potential avenues for innovative product development
