About the role:
As Senior Accounts Payable Manager, you will lead our dynamic AP team based in Mumbai, India, and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounts payable function.
You will be results-driven and have extensive experience in accounts payable operations management, with a proven track record of leadership, process optimisation and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Associate Director of GBS Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, this role requires strong analytical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments to achieve organisational goals.
Main responsibilities & duties:
- Team Leadership and Development: Provide strong leadership and mentorship to a team of 5 Accounts Payable Assistants, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, responsibility and continuous improvement. Develop and empower team members through coaching, training, and professional development initiatives
- Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement strategic plans, objectives, and initiatives for the accounts payable function, aligning with organisational goals and priorities. Drive process optimisation, automation, and innovation to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
- Operational Oversight: Oversee all aspects of the accounts payable function, including invoice processing, remediation, supplier reconciliation, payment processing, and vendor management. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls, while mitigating risks and maximising operational effectiveness
- Performance Management: Establish performance metrics, benchmarks, and KPIs to evaluate team performance and productivity. Monitor and report performance against targets, analyse trends, and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve departmental objectives and deliverables
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including Finance, Procurement, Operations, and senior leadership. Collaborate effectively to address issues, optimise processes, and drive cross-functional alignment in support of business objectives
- Project Leadership and Change Management: Lead and participate in strategic finance projects, transformation initiatives, and system implementations. Drive change management efforts, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and ensure successful project delivery within scope, timeline, and budget
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and automation within the accounts payable function. Implement best practices, tools, and technologies to drive operational excellence, enhance controls, and streamline workflows
About you:
Candidates with at least 9 years experience (with 5+ years at managerial level) of strategic accounts payable management experience within a large-scale or multinational pharmaceutical company, retail or manufacturing business, or similar commercial background are likely to have the skills required to be successful in this role. We are also looking for:
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred
- Proven, progressive experience in accounts payable operations, including a senior managerial or leadership role overseeing large teams
- Expert knowledge of accounting principles, accounts payable processes, and ERP systems SAP and VIM preferable, with advanced proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Excel
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a proven track record of building, developing, and managing high-performing teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse complex issues, develop actionable insights, and execute strategic initiatives to drive business results
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
- Strong project management skills, with experience leading finance transformation projects, process improvements, and system implementations
- Proactive mindset, results-oriented approach, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
