Job Title: Materials Analysis and Metrology Engineer
Location: Latrobe, PA
Position Summary
- Responsible for leading metrology and mechanical testing lab activities in support of product/process development, intellectual property, quality and manufacturing
- Global lead for metrology applications: support and standardization of equipment and analysis
Education Guidelines
- BS Engineering Metrology, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related field with 3-5+ years of related experience.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical resource for metrology and mechanical testing functions with responsibility for the daily operation of instrumentation (optical/tactile coordinate measurement machines, profilometers, 3D scanners, universal testing machine), and knowledge sharing of standardized procedures across all corporate locations.
- Support product development, process development, intellectual property, EHS, quality and manufacturing through the identification and design of appropriate analyses for characterization of a wide variety of product platforms.
- Collaborate with extended team of engineers and technicians to design testing plans, prioritize workload and facilitate workflow through labs.
- Lead, implement and sustain local/global system improvements, including measurement system analyses to improve accuracy and precision.
- Author and maintain internal procedures and work instructions.
- Research, evaluate and develop new testing technologies.
- Assist in vendor selection, prepare functional specifications and train personnel in research and manufacturing laboratories.
- Lead teams to resolution in the systematic use of data-driven analysis, decision making and validation.
- Must be able to lift and position moderate-weight equipment.
- Travel is not routine but may be required, depending on project activity.
Education, Work Experience, Skills, Certificates
- BS Engineering Metrology, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related field with 3-5+ years of related experience.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment with a diverse group of engineers, scientists and manufacturing personnel.
- Effective verbal/written communication and time management and prioritization skills.
- Preferred skills/experience include practical experience with tactile and optical metrology equipment and mechanical testing equipment operation and maintenance, knowledge of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Statistical analysis and project management skills, experience with 3D modelling and/or CAD/CAM software are also desired.
