Medical sonographers

A medical sonographer, also known as a diagnostic medical sonographer or ultrasound technician,performs ultrasounds on patients, interprets the results, and communicates them to physicians:

• Prepare patients:Explain the procedure, answer questions, and ensure patient comfort
• Operate equipment:Use ultrasound imaging equipment to produce images of the body
• Review images:Check the quality of the images and ensure they cover the areas needed for diagnosis
• Analyze results:Identify normal and abnormal results, and analyze for abnormalities
• Communicate results:Provide a summary of the findings to physicians or other health professionals
• Record results:Record imaging results in patient records
• Coordinate care:Coordinate care with various departments within the hospital or clinic
• Maintain equipment:Perform quality control checks on ultrasound equipment to ensure proper operation
• Train others:May supervise and train students and other medical sonographer
