Pay And Benefits
Annual Pay Range: $65,044.54 - $74,790.72
Hourly Pay Range: $31.271412 - $35.957078
Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

We are seeking motivated, skilled and team oriented individualsto join our team as
Mechanics within the Department of Transportation & Development (DTD) / Fleet Services Division. This is a unique opportunity as we anticipate to fill
two (2) vacancies through this recruitment process. If selected for this position, you will be mainly responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicles and small equipment, as well as replacing defective and damaged parts and systems, and maintaining vehicles or equipment in safe and efficient operating condition. In this position, you would typically work on gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel powered automobiles and light trucks, including police cars, motor pool cars and pickup trucks.
The Fleet Services Division manages the specification, deployment, maintenance and repair of County motor vehicles including Sheriff patrol cars, pickups, vans and other light and medium duty vehicles. We are committed to being an exemplary organization with best practices in Fleet Services. To that end, we are searching for an experienced individual, who is motivated to be a positive and collaborative contributor, demonstrating strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills that will allow us to improve, develop and enhance our operations.
Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of this position
- Experience performing routine preventative maintenance on light vehicles and small equipment
- Experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing light vehicles and small equipment
- Experience reading and interpreting, schematics and diagrams
Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
- Experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing vehicle computer and electrical systems
- At least two (2) years of experience with vehicle repair and maintenance
- Experience installing and wiring accessory equipment, such as lights, radios, and/or video equipment
- Training and/or education in a formal or specialized environment such as Automotive Maintenance & Repair program
Pre-Employment Requirements
- Must be available for on-call emergency response

WORKING CONDITIONS
Duties require frequent walking, kneeling, bending, twisting, grasping, and fine motor control and the ability to lift up to 90 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds, and push/pull 80 pounds. Duties also involve frequent exposure to confined spaces, loud noises, vibration, dust, fumes, chemicals, heat, slippery and/or uneven surfaces, adverse weather conditions, poor visibility/low lighting, and working on top of vehicles/equipment.
WORK SCHEDULE
This Position Is Included In The County's Alternate Workweek Program, Working 40 Hours During a Standard Workweek Of Monday Through Thursday (Fridays Off). There Are Two Shifts Available
- 3:00 PM - 1:00 AM with a 30 minute paid lunch
- Please Note: Mechanics whose regularly scheduled shift begins after 3:00 pm shall receive a shift differential of $1.50 per hour additional for all hours worked during their shift. For additional information regarding shift differential, please review the AFSCME-DTD Union Contract, Article 14, Section 24: Shift Differential .
- 5:30 AM - 4:00 PM with a 30 minute unpaid lunch
Please Note: Based on the department business needs, it is expected that the night shift will be filled first.
Specific hours of work and shift placement will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended.
This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
