Responsibilities
Vehicle Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of commercial vehicles to identify mechanical issues, damages, or safety concerns. Create detailed reports of the inspection findings and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance.
Repairs and Maintenance: Perform complex mechanical and electrical repairs on commercial vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other crucial components. Conduct regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
Diagnostics: Utilize diagnostic equipment and tools to troubleshoot and identify vehicle malfunctions. Develop effective repair strategies based on diagnostic results.
Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks comply with company standards, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable safety regulations. Keep track of necessary certifications and ensure vehicles are up to date with legal requirements.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all repairs, maintenance, and inspections performed on each commercial vehicle. Update and manage maintenance logs and service histories accurately.
Parts Management: Manage and maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment. Order necessary parts in a timely manner to minimize vehicle downtime.
Safety Measures: Strictly adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working on vehicles. Promote a safety-first culture among the team.
Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other mechanics and team members to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices. Support and assist colleagues when required.
Vehicle Testing: Conduct Road tests and performance evaluations after repairs or maintenance to ensure proper functioning and quality assurance.
Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest advancements in commercial vehicle technology, repair techniques, and industry trends.
Qualifications And Skills
High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
Formal technical training or certification in automotive mechanics or a related field is preferred.
Proven experience as a mechanic specializing in commercial vehicles (trucks, buses, vans, etc.).
Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle systems, engines, and components.
Proficient in using diagnostic equipment and repair tools.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex issues.
Physical strength and agility to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
