We are seeking a
Materials Scientist specializing in
Fiber & Biomaterials with a strong focus on
Food Packaging Applications. This role will involve the development and evolution of new materials, combining expertise in
Biology and Chemistry to create sustainable, scalable solutions for packaging. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of material science and the ability to drive successful scale-up processes from lab to industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of innovative fiber and biomaterials for food packaging, emphasizing sustainability and environmental impact.
- Conduct research on the processing, characterization, structure creation, and augmenting structure-property relationships of biomaterials to improve their performance in packaging applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale up materials from laboratory prototypes to commercially viable products.
- Utilize expertise in additive manufacturing to integrate cutting-edge technology into the development of new materials.
- Optimize the material formulations to meet the required specifications for food safety, durability, and environmental friendliness.
- Manage research projects, ensuring the timely delivery of key milestones and deliverables.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in fiber, biomaterials, and material science and apply this knowledge to ongoing projects.
- Provide technical guidance to the team and work collaboratively with external stakeholders (suppliers, research institutes) to push innovation boundaries.
- Ensure the practical and successful implementation of materials for large-scale production, with an emphasis on sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
Key Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Material Science with a focus on Chemistry or Biology, or a closely related field.
- In-depth knowledge of fiber, biomaterials, and their applications in food packaging.
- Demonstrated experience in material processing, characterization techniques, and understanding of structure-property relationships.
- Proven track record of successful scale-up of materials from concept to commercialization.
- Background in additive manufacturing as applied to materials science.
- Experience working in an R&D environment and handling end-to-end projects, from initial concept through to production.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to solve complex material challenges.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with diverse teams and external partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in food-safe packaging or biodegradable/compostable materials.
- Familiarity with sustainability standards and regulations in food packaging.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in the development of innovative materials.
