About the job and it's activities
Bone is a complex naturally occurring composite material of primary importance. The complexity in the bone structure arises due to the presence of various organic & inorganic components. These components contribute to the mechanical properties of bone and have deteriorating effects due to various factors: aging & diseases being the most common. Predicting and preventing bone fractures is an important area of study due to their high frequency, surgical complications & socio-economic impact. Nanoindentation, which is a depth-sensing indentation technique at nanoscale accuracy can be used to probe the variation in mechanical properties of bone over the surface of interest and extracted properties can be used to correlate with age of specimen.
