Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Technical Documentation Manager to lead a team of technical writers based in Procore's Bengaluru, India Office reporting to the Senior Manager of Technical Documentation located in the US.
In this role, you will lead and manage a team of technical writers, providing mentorship and support in authoring clear and accurate English-language product related technical documentation that enables customers to setup, implement, use and manage our software effectively and efficiently. You'll collaborate and align with other cross-functional teams to ensure our documentation meets the needs of technical and non technical users.
What you'll do:
Hire, manage, and support a world-class team of local Technical Writers; focus on Managing Editor
Manage with a results-focused approach that balances assignments across the team
Provide team metrics to Sr. Manager
Oversee and drive the development and maintenance of web-based and non web-based documentation assets, continuously improving content based on stakeholder input, customer feedback and industry best practices
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure the team is aligned and able to work successfully
Assist in defining documentation requirements, processes and priorities
Ensure that Technical Writers effectively prioritize and fulfill content backlog request along with high-priority feature release work as well as other content, experiences, and process improvements required
Help Technical Writers refine their writing skills by spot-checking content and providing coaching and editorial feedback.
Actively engage product development teams to understand their needs and address any challenges or concerns related to documentation
Identify opportunities for process improvement
Ensure efficient collaboration with the rest of the customer education, documentation and product development and teams
Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing within the technical writing team, promoting continuous learning and professional development.
What we're looking for:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
3+ years of experience managing or leading technical writers
Strong technical aptitude with an ability to quickly learn new concepts and tools
Proven experience in managing, mentoring, and training teams of Technical Writers
Experience creating and managing online, production-level documentation
Well versed in the technical communications industry best practices
Self-motivated with robust organizational skills
Substantial written and spoken English communication skills, including Plain English
Experience with workflows and tooling used by engineering, operations, and product teams (Jira, Figma, Confluence, Github, etc.)
Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across a company, its customers and overall ecosystem
Excellent work ethic and strong intellectual curiosity, ability to work quickly, efficiently, and multi-task
Track record of effective technical writing leadership in a fast-paced, work environment
