Manager, NV R&D is expected to collaborate with the functional leaders in the Division and set a strategic plan for a long-term partnership for product development and sustaining engineering. Lead and drive competency development and partnering with divisional stakeholders to add capabilities, drive synergies and consistency that enable Stryker NV's strategic mission. The R&D manager is a leader who can challenge their team and the status quo in ways that enable talent development and process improvement to enhance efficiency.
Manager, NV R&D will lead a team of R&D engineers to deliver best in-class products and service.
- Business Planning:
- Collaborate and formulate strategic plans for R&D, lead and drive implementation to help drive the overarching strategic plan.
- Understand the main objective of R&D: labor wage rate/ market entry / leverage regional technical expertise / support regional marketing or manufacturing needs.
- Setup Key Product Development & Testing Capabilities: focus on most used tests for long-term strategy of capabilities for NPD and SE.
- Manage complex and multi-functional projects along with team leaders.
- Develop metrics to measure success of the team.
- Prepare and deliver R&D annual budgets (headcount, expense and capital) for final review and approval.
- Builds justification and ROI to support programs, projects and value the team brings.
- Holds team accountable to business goals.
- Technical Leadership:
- Ensure consistency between SGTC site and other NV sites in terms of Product Development, Sustenance, Test Development and Validation efforts.
- Identify, strategize and develop competencies to support the vision of the division
- Develop plan to leverage regional technical expertise.
- Provide significant guidance and approval regarding technical strategies and approaches.
- Provide leadership and work together with the SGTC based team to plan and execute projects.
- Provide direction to the team in complex or difficult situations, remove obstacles, assign appropriate resources and interface with other functions to assist with issue resolution.
- Work cross-functionally in identifying and resolving technical issues.
- Drives and evaluates project and department progress, technical development plans, and results.
- Participate in functional reviews at SGTC and Fremont.
- People Management:
- Hire, engage and develop team in collaboration with NV R&D functional leaders and/or representatives.
- Lead a team of highly engaged technical professionals.
- Ensure cross-training program with global R&D sites and has appropriate product and technical specifications, directions, and resources to perform effectively.
- Work with NV R&D functional leaders and/or representatives in defining annual/quarterly objectives for SGTC team members and monitor progress.
- Ensure a culture of collaboration exists between the NV and SGTC to ensure that key skill sets can be leveraged when required to ensure all projects are managed effectively and delivered in line with divisional expectations.
- Ensure close collaboration and cross-training with SGTC NV R&D team.

Education/Special Training Required:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or applicable technical field (mechanical or biomedical preferred)
Master degree preferred.
Qualifications/Work Experience Required:
- 10+ years of medical device design & development experience
- 5+ years of people management / Program management experience preferred.
