The Manager Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all safety protocols and programs within the power distribution network. This role involves creating and enforcing safety policies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a safety culture across all operations. This position will work closely with operational teams to reduce workplace incidents, implement industry best practices, and monitor adherence to safety standards. This position is key in protecting employee well-being, minimizing risk, and maintaining compliance with internal and external regulations.
What does this role entail
- Develop and lead safety programs that address the unique risks in power distribution, including line work, equipment safety, and human safety.
- Ensure all operations meet industry safety standards as per statutes/codes / ISO norms (OHSAS, 1S0 45001:2018), regulatory requirements, and company policies
- Conduct regular and random safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks across all distribution facilities to assess the existing practice, identify and assess potential HSE hazards and risks (HIRA) and implement corrective/preventive action(s)
- Implement and monitor safety training programs and create awareness of health and safety matters and accident prevention through regular meetings, mock drills, and various other means of communication for employees (regular & contractual), vendor representatives, and other relevant stakeholders
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and incidents, drive root cause analysis, and suggest preventive measures in safety procedures/methods to avoid recurrence
- Manage safety reporting systems and develop clear metrics for tracking and improving safety performance
- Drive a culture of safety throughout the organization by conducting safety meetings, setting safety targets, and recognizing outstanding safety performance
- Serve as the primary liaison with local / govt. and regulatory bodies on matters of health, environment, and safety compliance and inspections
- Evaluate new safety technologies and equipment that could reduce risk and improve operational safety
- Lead emergency preparedness initiatives, including response planning, drills, and employee readiness programs
Some key attributes desired of this role
- Graduate Electrical Engineer with 10+ years experience in safety function, preferably in the power, and infrastructure sectors
- Must have completed courses/certifications in Industrial Safety, and must be a qualified safety officer for the power distribution business.
- Good understanding of safety rules as per standards/codes/norms.
- Exposure to implementing ESG (Environment & Social Management System, Occupational Health & Safety Management System) policies and practices will be preferred
