Job Overview And Responsibilities
The Analytics and Innovation (Ai) team at United Airlines works to innovate, transform, and solve complex business problems resulting in significant and measurable enterprise impact through the application of deep cross-functional business expertise and advanced analytics. We work with business and technology partners across the enterprise (e.g. Airport Operations, Contact Centers, Network Planning, Revenue Management, Digital Products, Human Resources, etc.) to influence strategic decisions, enterprise strategy, business process, and to help connect the dots across the enterprise. Data Scientists within Ai partner with business and technology leaders across the company to deploy AI & ML powered solutions to support and automate business processes. The team works closely with other teams in digital technology with complementing skills and capabilities. The key objectives are to drive incremental revenue, boost customer engagement and to automate manual processes by leveraging state-of-the-art ML techniques. Data Scientists contribute to developing smart and innovative solutions across many of United's departments.
- Lead and manage a team of data scientists to deliver high-quality, production-scale ML models on time, with measurable business impact across multiple business and product verticals
- Coaching and mentoring team members on their professional development and ensuring the successful delivery of projects
- Collaborating closely with business leaders and Digital Technology partners throughout the project lifecycle
- Develop and manage relationships with business leaders at the Director and Managing Director levels
- Defining the scope, size, and plan data science project roadmaps with clear milestones, metrics, and identification of potential derailment factors.
- Independently develop and deliver compelling stories and presentations for reporting purposes.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Economics
- Full time 6-7 years experience in data science/data analytics/ ML Engineering
- Demonstrated expertise in developing and deploying large-scale machine learning models, effectively solving business problems and optimizing product development and ML project lifecycles.
- Highly proficient in Python/SQL & experience with deep learning libraries like Pytorch
- Experience with supervised machine learning (Gradient Boosting, Random Forest, KNN etc.), unsupervised learning (K-means, DBSCAN, tsne etc.), deep learning algorithms (CNNs, RNNs/LSTMs, Transformers etc.), Generative AI (LLMs, GANs, Stable diffusion etc.), recommender systems (collaborative filtering, matrix factorization etc.)
- In-depth understanding of AWS Services including Sagemaker, Redshift, Athena & S3
- Experience with experimentation techniques like A/B testing
- Strong analytical abilities, ability to define relevant measurements / metrics for a given problem
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable interacting with technical and non-technical audiences including business and tech leadership
- Must be legally authorized to work in India for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
Preferred
- Master's degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Economics
- Previous airline experience and/or knowledge of airline industry data sources
- Experience with Natural Language Processing & Computer Vision is a plus
- Prior experience of leading and developing high performing teams with an emphasis on execution and productivity
- Demonstrated thought leadership in evaluating business problems and designing cohesive solutions
