Overview

We are looking for a Mainframe COBOL Developer with 3-5 years of hands-on experience in COBOL programming and mainframe systems. A candidate with a strong understanding of

COBOL programming concepts, mainframe development tools, and the ability to develop and

maintain complex applications in a mainframe environment. The candidate will work closely

with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements, design solutions, and implement and test

COBOL programs to support business operations.

Primary Skills Required:

Mainframes, COBOL, JCL, DB2

Tools: IBM Rational tools (IDz, RDz, RBD, RTC)

Responsibilities:

Analyze COBOL scripts to generate comprehensive current state documentation, capturing architecture, functionality, and data flow. Prepare detailed Analysis/AS-IS system documents using tools like Visio to provide clear insights into existing systems and future designs.

Participate in the migration of COBOL, JCL, and copybook scripts into GCP-equivalent solutions using SQL, Python, or other cloud-native technologies. Collaborate with cloud Data Engineers to ensure seamless translation of mainframe logic into cloud-compatible formats, maintaining functionality and performance.

Analyze user requirements, envision system features and functionality, and design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable mainframe code. Set expectations and prioritize features to ensure successful project delivery.

Identify bottlenecks, bugs, and system inefficiencies, recommending effectivesolutions. Provide technical guidance and support throughout the migration process, troubleshooting development and production issues across multiple environments and operating platforms.

Understand architecture requirements and ensure effective design, development, validation, and support activities. Perform rigorous testing and validation of newly built components, comparing results with legacy systems to ensure accuracy.

Assist in creating documentation and training materials to support ongoing

maintenance and development of migrated applications. Contribute to team

meetings and share insights to foster a collaborative working environment.

Solid understanding of object-oriented programming

Familiar with various design, architectural patterns, and software development processes.

Experience with both external and embedded databases

Creating database schemas that represent and support business processes

Implementing automated testing platforms and unit tests

Good verbal and written communication skills

Ability to communicate with remote teams in an effective manner
