Job Title: Mainframe AWS Cloud Migration Architect
Job Summary:
As a Mainframe AWS Cloud Migration Architect, you will lead the planning, design, and execution of mainframe migration projects to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. Leveraging your expertise in mainframe technologies, AWS services, and migration methodologies, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess legacy systems, develop migration strategies, and architect cloud-native solutions that optimize performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Your role will involve guiding the migration of complex mainframe workloads to AWS, ensuring seamless transitions and alignment with organizational objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment and Analysis:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing mainframe applications, databases, and infrastructure to identify migration requirements, dependencies, and technical debt.
Analyse performance metrics, resource utilization, and data dependencies to determine migration priorities and feasibility.
Migration Strategy Development:
Define migration strategies and roadmaps tailored to organizational goals, considering factors such as application criticality, data sensitivity, compliance requirements, and business continuity.
Evaluate AWS migration services, tools, and methodologies (e.g., AWS DMS, AWS SMS, AWS Snowball) and select appropriate approaches for each workload.
Architecture Design:
Design cloud-native architectures for migrated applications on AWS, leveraging services such as Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, and AWS EKS for containers.
Develop scalable, resilient, and cost-effective solutions using AWS Well-Architected Framework principles and best practices.
Migration Execution:
Lead migration projects from planning to execution, coordinating activities across development teams, infrastructure teams, and external partners to ensure successful migrations.
Provide technical guidance and oversight during migration activities, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance as needed.
Performance Optimization:
Optimize mainframe workloads for AWS environments, leveraging AWS services such as Amazon Aurora for databases, Amazon Redshift for analytics, and Amazon DynamoDB for NoSQL data storage.
Implement performance monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms to identify and address performance bottlenecks proactively.
Security and Compliance:
Implement security controls and encryption mechanisms to protect data in transit and at rest, ensuring compliance with AWS security best practices, industry regulations, and data protection laws.
Configure AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies, roles, and permissions to manage access controls and enforce least privilege principles.
Knowledge Sharing and Training:
Provide training, workshops, and documentation to internal teams on AWS cloud migration best practices, tools, and methodologies.
Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning, empowering teams to build competency and confidence in AWS cloud technologies.
Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
Extensive experience (10+ years) in mainframe migration, cloud architecture, or enterprise IT transformation, with a focus on AWS cloud solutions.
Strong understanding of mainframe technologies (e.g., IBM zSeries, COBOL, JCL), AWS services, and migration tools (e.g., AWS DMS, AWS SMS).
AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking are highly desirable.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence decision-making.
Proven track record of successfully leading complex migration projects, delivering results on time and within budget.
