What the role is all about:

We're seeking a Lead Engineer (5-8 years experience) who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of REA's cutting-edge products. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the globe, to craft, build, and enhance solutions aimed at delivering outstanding user experiences.

This role sits in the Media Team, within the Advertising portfolio. The Media team helps consumers share, rent, buy, sell and enjoy property, by connecting them with all sorts of products and services to help them along their property journey. This includes finance products, utilities, home services, furnishings, automotive and many more innovative advertising, lead generation tools and extension products. The fast-growing Media business includes a cross-functional team from Product, IT, Sales, Marketing, PR and Communications, HR, Finance and Legal. We're all about using digital solutions to make property and everything that supports consumers around property, simple, efficient and stress free.

The Lead Engineer role has key strategic importance and visibility within the business. This is a unique role that will focus on delivering thought leadership in advertising technologies, designing innovative solutions, and helping teams leverage this to produce world class advertising products.

While no two days are likely to be the same, your typical responsibilities will include:

  • Work closely with product and design teams to translate user needs into technical specifications, ensuring solutions meet user requirements.
  • Thought leadership in buying ads, selling ads, and sharing data with advertising clients.
  • Contributing to the overall technical solution design and product direction, working with Lead Developers and Tech Leads to ensure our solution is in line with our technical vision.
  • Informing delivery planning and technical design by providing a balanced view of options, effort, and quality considerations.
  • Collaborate closely with a variety of teammates to build features, brainstorm design concepts, and develop interactive prototypes.
  • Work within value-driven teams to craft innovative customer experiences.
  • Foster a well-connected and knowledgeable team by sharing knowledge through sessions, mentoring other team members, and contributing to the technical roadmap.
  • Work towards shared team goals and contribute to successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with team leads to define, advocate and embody best practices within the team like writing clean and reusable code using TDD, pair programming, and design patterns.
  • Actively participate in pairing, code reviews, unit testing, and secure deployments to deliver secure and quality code.
  • Stay updated on the latest web development trends and apply them to solve complex challenges.
  • Working with stakeholders to design high quality solutions that meet the needs of our users, including vendor platforms
  • Take ownership and accountability of deliverables.
  • Mentor other team members.

Who we are looking for:

  • Experience with two or more development languages, frameworks (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Node.js).
  • Demonstrated experience working in Docker, Splunk, and/or AWS services
  • Comfortable with Agile, and/or Continuous Delivery methodologies.
  • Good awareness of TDD, CI/CD approaches and tools.
  • Experience working in Media/AdTech industry, with exposure to Bidding solutions, DSPs, SSPs, Tag Management, CDPs, knowledge of targeting and creative setup used in media campaigns as well as privacy-enhancing technologies
  • Developed skills in software development techniques and continuous delivery
  • Someone who demonstrates a commitment to quality and a keen eye for detail in their code.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with global teams.
  • Someone who approaches problems with a solutions-oriented mindset and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
  • A lifelong learner, someone who is eager to stay updated on the latest web development trends.

Bonus Points for:

  • Experience with Functional Programming (FP), AWS, PHP, HTML/CSS, and GraphQL.
