The impact you will have in this role:The Development family is responsible for creating, designing, deploying, and supporting applications, programs, and software solutions. May include research, new development, prototyping, modification, reuse, re-engineering, maintenance, or any other activities related to software products used internally or externally on product platforms supported by the firm. The software development process requires in-depth subject matter expertise in existing and emerging development methodologies, tools, and programming languages. Software Developers work closely with business partners and / or external clients in defining requirements and implementing solutions.
The Application Support Engineering role specializes in maintaining and providing technical support for all applications that are beyond the development stage and are running in the daily operations of the firm. Works closely with development teams, infrastructure partners, and internal / external clients to escalate and resolve technical support incidents.
What You'll Do:
- Work locally and remotely with Mainframe DB2 team, area management, and related technical support groups in the process of engineering mainframe database solutions.
- Assisting application development teams using DB2 for z/OS with the following:
- Implementation of physical database design.
- Consulting on logical design questions,
- Creation and modification of databases structures
- Review performance of SQL in application programs
- Creating and modifying database indexes to improve application performance
- Assisting throughout the application development life cycle.
- Support database utilities used to load and unload data from DB2 databases
- Perform monitoring and performance tuning of DTCC applications using DB2 for z/OS. Document tuning efforts. Quantify impact of performance changes. Tune issues found during application development, during certification review, highlighted in the monthly performance reports, or when SLAs are close to being breached.
- Assist in the configuration and setup of distributed database connections using JDBC
- Provide support for Disaster Recovery tests, database infrastructure changes, application changes, and business operations.
- Automation of database support procedures and repetitive DBA tasks.
- Responsible for the integrity and security of data in these databases.
- Adhere to security controls for the DB2 database environment
- Participate in DB2 on-call and hot-line rotation.
- Monitors database activity and assist developers and business clients in the utilization of databases.
- Troubleshooting database and SQL related problems
- Support backup and recovery of DB2 databases
- Respond to alerts related to DB2 database environment.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Talents Needed for Success:
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience.
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Requires hands-on expertise with DB2 for z/OS.
- Knowledge of SQL.
- Requires general knowledge and hands-on experience in all database disciplines related to DB2 for z/OS, including but not limited to, logical and physical database design, database implementation, access optimization, security, system and application performance management, and database systems administration.
- Experience with diverse workload of applications utilizing DB2 for z/OS including batch, RRS, CICS, WebSphere on z/OS and distributed platforms, JZOS, and java batch on distributed platforms is a plus.
- Experience in a DB2 data sharing environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of distributed database connectivity configuration and setup are a plus.
- Knowledge of third-party vendor software products that support DB2 for z/OS - BMC (database utilities, Catalog and Change Manager, SQL Explorer and Apptune) and CA Sysview are a plus.
- Experience with IBM Infosphere Data Replication (Q-Rep or CDC) is a plus.
- General z/OS skills in areas that including TSO/ISPF, JCL, RACF. REXX and ISPF/CLIST programing are a plus.
