Your Role
We're looking for a Senior/Lead Backend Engineer to take a leading role in our product's development and level up our backend engineering and cloud adoption practices. You'll be the technical backbone of our team, directly impacting our customers experience. Your responsibilities will include owning the complex backend, hands-on coding with Node (hosted on AWS), system design, architecting solutions. Your skills are broad Designing and implementing cloud solutions for various application architectures, scripting, and programmatic integration of cloud applications, databases. You are a self-starter, driven and can handle multiple projects and priorities.

In this role you will be reporting to the VP Engineering and working very
closely with our IC/Staff Engineer.
Responsibilities
- Architectural Design and Guidance:
Lead the design and development of scalable architecture to ensure efficient performance and reliability of web and mobile applications.
Make informed architectural decisions that align with both current and future business needs.
Make sure the security and privacy are well considered and taken care of when choosing solutions and coding the back-end services and API endpoints.
Utilize AWS services and serverless architectures for deployment and management, including EC2, RDS, API Gateway, ElastiCache, ECS, ALB/NLB Load Balancers, S3, EBS, VPC Networking etc.
Manage CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI/CD (or similar tools) for automated build, test, and deployment processes.
- Containerization and Orchestration:
Use AWS ECS/EKS and Terraform for deploying and managing containerized applications.
Maintain and enhance infrastructure as code, CI/CD setups using Terraform, Jenkins.
Uphold high standards of code quality through regular reviews, maintaining best practices in programming, and implementing robust testing strategies.
- Developer & Problem Solver First
Design, develop, and deploy backend services and APIs using Node.js and AWS technologies.
Effective NoSQL (ideally MongoDB) schema design and data modelling, and design robust indexing strategies.
Monitor and control technical debt, ensuring that it does not compromise the scalability or performance of the application.

Requirements
- Ideally, has startup experience, having developed the muscle to take extreme ownership of the results, leaving a lasting impact in the business.
- Typically, at least 6 years of relevant experience
- Node.js, significant experience designing and building Node services, proficiency in JavaScript, with a strong understanding of building secure applications.
- Strong Experience with AWS services as EC2, RDS, API Gateway, ElastiCache, ECS, ALB/NLB Load Balancers, S3, EBS, VPC Networking (all foundational elements such as ACLs, Security Groups, Route Tables, Internet & Virtual Private Gateways, etc.), SecretManager.
- Experience in tools like Terraform, to implement infrastructure as code using Terraform.
- Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes is strongly considered.
- A paver of CI/CD pipelines and automation building blocks - Experience with CI/CD tooling and procedures (ideally using GitLab, AWS services)
- Great understanding and strong experience working with MongoDB & RabbitMQ
- A team player who thrives in a remote, collaborative environment with strong communication skills.
- Strong track record of at least 4 years of experience in practicing SCRUM framework, collaborating with scrum master, PO, and other stakeholders.
- AWS Certification will be highly regarded
