Junior Medical Coder

The Junior Medical Coder is responsible for accurately assigning medical codes (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT) to patient records. This entry-level position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. The Junior Medical Coder will work under the guidance of experienced coders and will receive ongoing training and development opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Review patient medical records and accurately assign appropriate medical codes.
• Abstract clinical information from patient records and ensure proper code assignment.
• Query physicians and other healthcare providers for clarification on diagnoses and procedures.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations.
• Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives.
• Adhere to all HIPAA and confidentiality regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
