Role Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to join our dynamic team. The Cost Accountant will play a crucial role in analysing costs, preparing budget reports, and ensuring financial efficiency for our clients. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of accounting principles, particularly in the context of the power sector in India.
Key Tasks and Accountability:
Cost Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of costs associated with power generation, distribution, and other operational activities. Identify cost-saving opportunities and make recommendations to client for optimization.
Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including cost statements, variance analysis, and cost of production reports. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal accounting standards.
Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate existing accounting processes and identify areas for improvement. Develop and implement efficient procedures to streamline cost accounting activities and enhance productivity.
Costing Systems: Maintain and update costing systems to reflect changes in the organization's operations, such as new projects, technologies, or regulatory requirements. Ensure the integrity and accuracy of cost data for decision-making purposes.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends impacting accounting practices in the power sector. Ensure compliance with relevant laws, standards, and guidelines.
Ad-hoc Projects: Participate in special projects or initiatives as assigned by management, providing cost-related expertise and support as needed
Educational & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification such as ICWA (Institute of Cost Accountants of India), CA (ICAI) or equivalent is preferred.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices applicable to the power sector in India, such as the Electricity Act, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) regulations, and state electricity regulatory commissions (SERCs) guidelines.
Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or System Auditor or Internal Auditor, preferably in the power sector or a related industry.
Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and draw meaningful conclusions.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting financial information to stakeholders.
Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision in financial reporting and analysis.
Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and accounting standards applicable to the power sector in India.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in financial management practices.
