Who are we
Swaniti Initiative is an ecosystem builder working toward a sustainable future in a climate constrained world. We believe that while the resources and willingness to work toward energy transition exists, there are implementation challenges that require technical assistance at a subnational level. Therefore Swaniti is working across the global south with subnational governments, communities and industry leaders to enable this transition process. Our areas of intervention include providing micro planning support to communities in transition, providing pointed technical expertise to subnational governments and supporting in monitoring toward optimal outcomes. Over the last twelve years we have been able to mobilize over a 100 million dollars and directly affect the lives of almost a million people in order to support energy transition work.
What will you work on
As the Lead - Private Sector Decarbonization, you will play a pivotal role in driving Swanitis mission to facilitate the energy transition of industries. Your primary focus will be on collaborating with industry leaders and policymakers to green their energy sources, thereby supporting the broader policy ecosystem in the decarbonization process.
What will be your roles and responsibilities
- Lead and manage projects focused on industrial decarbonization and policy advocacy, ensuring alignment with Swanitis mission.
- Engage with industry and government stakeholders to promote sustainable energy practices, especially in hard-to-abate sectors such as steel and cement.
- Utilize your deep knowledge and experience to provide strategic guidance on multi-state decarbonization projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement policies that drive energy transition efforts.
- Manage a small team (2-5 members) to execute projects and initiatives effectively. Articulate complex concepts and strategies in both verbal and written formats to diverse audiences.
What does the ideal candidate look like
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in climate science, environmental engineering, or related fields.
- Experience: 10-15 years of demonstrated experience at the intersection of industrial decarbonization and the policy ecosystem (for example working with industry associations on decarbonization, working with renewables companies etc.).
- Proven track record of working with industry and policy leaders on decarbonization initiatives, especially in hard-to-abate sectors like steel and cement (subsequent interview rounds will seek out your expertise in the area).
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Strong ability to navigate and provide strategic guidance on complex, multi-state decarbonization projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience in managing teams (at least 3 direct reporting) to drive projects to successful completion.
- Ability to envision long-term goals and direct programs to achieve meaningful impact.
- Comfortable working with a high degree of independence to steer ongoing programs and initiatives.
