Overview

The General Manager - Legal plays a crucial role in overseeing all legal affairs of the organization, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and providing strategic guidance on legal matters. This position is essential for safeguarding the company's interests, managing potential risks, and contributing to the organization's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement legal strategies and objectives aligned with the company's goals
  • Lead and manage the legal team, providing guidance and support
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations in all business operations
  • Oversee contract negotiation, drafting, and review processes
  • Handle legal disputes, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution
  • Consult and collaborate with external legal counsel when necessary
  • Manage intellectual property rights and infringement issues
  • Review and advise on legal implications of business transactions and initiatives
  • Provide legal support for corporate governance and regulatory compliance
  • Conduct risk assessment and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting the industry
  • Participate in mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic business transactions
  • Prepare and present reports on legal matters to senior management
  • Promote a culture of legal compliance and ethics throughout the organization
  • Contribute to the development of company policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a General Manager - Legal or similar senior legal role
  • Law degree from an accredited institution; additional specialized qualifications are a plus
  • Admission to the Bar and practicing license
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate law, contracts, intellectual property, and litigation
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing legal teams
  • Strong understanding of business operations and strategic planning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear, practical advice
  • Proven track record in managing legal risks and resolving disputes effectively
  • Experience in regulatory compliance and governance
  • Capability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • High ethical standards and integrity
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities
  • Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
