Qualification
Experience
- At least 8- 10 years Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in India, the UK or other similar common law jurisdiction. Experience of working in the sports, media and entertainment industry desirable but not essential.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of India's legal system and government infrastructure
- Experience of working outside India desirable but not essential
- Knowledge of sports sponsorship and business structuring desirable but not essential
- Experience in business partnering to senior executives
- Demonstrated ability to navigate in legal environments

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYPERFORMANCE MEASURES
- Legal Business Partnering
- Be the primary counsel to RCSPL for all their legal needs
- Review and maintain the contract templates used by RCSPL for their sponsorship and other IPL/WPL needs.
- Ensure that transaction risk (in the underlying business & in the negotiated documents) is contractually mitigated as far as possible to protect RCSPL and that any remaining risk is understood by all relevant stakeholders, while balancing business and operational constraints and needs
- Minimise legal risk for RCSPL in the areas of Anti-Bribery and Corruption using strong knowledge of these fast evolving areas
- Instil confidence in the RCSPL leadership team by delivering pragmatic and proportionate legal advice and support ensuring sustainable performance
- Act as the main driver of brand and intellectual property protection for RCSPL and work to develop an effective framework for monitoring infringement, particularly during the WPL and IPL season.
- Provide frameworks , processes and checklists and training to ensure effective adherence to policies and processes put in place for RCSPL
- New sports ventures for RCSPL
- Be an integral part of the team that explores new sports franchise opportunities for RCSPL within cricket and across other sports
- Work closely with cross functional teams, including finance and tax, to provide advice on structuring issues that may be arise when expanding into new sports and geographies
- Sports law and practices
- Keep abreast of developments in sports, media and entertainment law and best practices across sports franchises
- Ensure that RCSPL template agreements reflect best in class practises and clauses in consultation with the tax and finance teams
- Financial Responsibilities
- Manage the legal budget with respect to external legal assistance.
- Review the capabilities of external counsel and seek to rationalise the external counsel we use to drive cost savings.
- Brand Protection and Intellectual Property
- Review and strengthen the brand protection programme of RCSPL, particularly during the WPL and IPL season, across digital and physical channels for sale
- Manage the IP portfolio of RCSPL, including registration and maintenance of marks and proactive planning of IP strategies for future ventures and liaise with external IP counsel as required
- Develop a plan and process for IP use and protection
- Other ventures
- Support RCSPL in its non-sport ventures like the RCB Bar & Caf and monetisation of other RCB branded merchandise
- Support RCSPL in any new investments or ventures in new business areas, including structuring deals and investments, negotiating investment documents and liaising with cross functional internal teams and with external counsel
- Compliance
- Be the point person to drive compliance in RCSPL for policies like anti-bribery and corruption, POSH and anti-money laundering
- Supervise and maintain a robust policy training and awareness programme
- Advise RCSPL on compliance with applicable laws, including the Companies Act
- ESG and CSR
- Help RCSPL implement its ESG programme
- Ensure compliance with various ESG and CSR obligations, including under the Companies Act
