Job Overview
As a Level Designer you are responsible for creating compelling and exciting gaming environments which challenge, excites and engage players. The Level Designer must possess a strong understanding of game mechanics, 3D asset creation, and level scripting. The Level Designer's primary responsibilities include creating level designs, modeling 3D assets, scripting interactive elements, and troubleshooting issues. They must be able to rapidly prototype ideas, test them, and adjust as needed. Additionally, they must have a strong knowledge of level design best practices, game development pipelines, and necessary software. You must be passionate about creating engaging and immersive gaming experiences for players.
Roles And Responsibilities
- Analyze the specifications and needs of the video game.
- Conceptualize, implement, and maintain gameplay systems that achieve a fulfilling flow state, addictive game loops, and a risk/reward balance.
- Developing the storyline, character back-stories, and dialogue, through scripts and storyboards, including any relevant research.
- Integrate gameplay elements into the game environment (textures, decorations, animations, audio, characters, objects, etc.)
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation (such as design outlines, diagrams, and visual mockups) that details the triggers, interactions, and subsequent events of specific features or aspects of gameplay
- Be responsible for the player's progression through the levels, gameplay, and accessibility of the levels.
- Work closely with User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) Designers to optimize the player interface.
- Test, analyze bugs and correct/adjust game levels
- Integrate feedback from the team.
- Propose solutions and improvements to the level design pipeline and tools
Skills Required
- Principles of game design
- Storytelling in video games
- Ability to create engaging, cohesive levels.
- Proficiency with level design software.
- Have a good understanding of technical implementation within games, scripting languages, syntax, and other basic programming concepts.
- Good understanding of 3D art, modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, and other areas of 3D art creation, use, and conversion
- Advanced knowledge of user interface (UI/UX) in games
- Knowledge of the history and culture of video games
