Your day at NTT DATA

The Field Operations Network Engineer is a seasoned subject matter expert in relation to the Global IP Network (GIN) facilities and hardware logistics.

This role is responsible for overseeing rollouts of new technology on a major IP Backbone Network, and ensures the network has the right equipment and capacity to continue to support continued growth.

The Field Operations Network Engineer is responsible for operational functions within required point-of-presence (PoP) locations, as well as asset management, equipment sparing, and inventory levels.

This role may occasionally be required for onsite support of equipment installation, maintenance activity, migration work, or to conduct a site inspection/documentation/cleanup exercise.

Key Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

  • Provides site documentation for operational use throughout business area.
  • Manages projects to upgrade and improves facilities across business area.
  • Performs installation of network and cabling infrastructure for business area in data center facilities.
  • Performs the management of power consumption, pre-cabling and rack-space usage, liaising with internal teams and data center providers to upgrade/optimize space.
  • Deploys and assists troubleshooting for NTT owned DWDM/optical installations.
  • Works closely with remote hands for troubleshooting, hardware replacement and installation.
  • Provides after hours support in some circumstances.
  • Plans, orders, and ships consumable inventory for daily activity and migration work.
  • Maintains and manages physical and remote access to facilities.
  • Manages all equipment hardware logistics areas such as sparing, inventory control, asset management, RMA.
  • Contributes to process evaluation and best practices for internal and external customers.
  • Performs a myriad of tasks as required and/or assigned

Knowledge And Attributes

  • Seasoned knowledge of data networks and the various related network elements.
  • Seasoned understanding of DWDM topologies, functions, and deployment standards.
  • Seasoned knowledge of AC and DC power.
  • Meticulous, understands the need for consistent record-keeping/documentation.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts and displays an overall excellent technical aptitude.
  • Strong problem resolution skills.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail.
  • Skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities, and implement effectively.
  • Able to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interface with all levels of employees, clients and vendors.
  • Demonstrates mutual acceptance and respect of co-workers and develops strong working relationships.

Academic Qualifications And Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Relevant data center or networking certifications desirable.

Required Experience

  • Seasoned demonstrated working experience in engineering and or telecommunications.
  • Seasoned demonstrated experience working in large-scale datacenter/LAN environment.
  • Seasoned demonstrated hands-on experience with networking equipment and technologies of various vendors (for example, Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, Fujitsu, and/or other).
  • Seasoned demonstrated experience with advanced testing tools and technologies (Smartbits, IXIA, Fluke, Digital Lightwave and similar equipment/technologies).
