The Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) organization embodies the hub of lifecycle engineering at TJX, delivering, maintaining, and optimizing our technology portfolio at cloud scale. We are a service-oriented team aimed at providing extraordinary experiences to thousands of TJX associates, business partners, and application delivery teams across the portfolio.
An Engineering Manager is accountable for technical product management, engineering health of assigned products/platforms and overall engineering talent management for the assigned scope. An Engineering Manager has infrastructure engineering experience and is expected to be familiar with modern infrastructure technologies. They have a strong focus on coaching, mentoring, developing and growing associates. They will also function as the champion of an engineering mindset across IT. This role will lead multiple teams that support, evolve and manage various technical platforms across the TJX landscape from the India Office.
What you will do
- Partners with Stakeholders to drive solutions to meet business needs.
- Accountable for the planning (inc. estimation / forecasting), execution and success of technical Epics, or technical aspects of larger Epics to achieve business outcomes.
- Ensures mechanisms for technical oversight are in place whilst executing through skilled engineers, including spend, governance & decision making within the Product Team(s) or technical domain(s).
- Accountable for creating and delivering an engineering roadmap for the assigned products, partnering with stakeholders to ensure alignment to Product Roadmaps, Business Strategies and Architectural standards.
- Accountable for the product/platform health (i.e. reliability, quality, supportability) of these products/platforms, and for delivering on Engineering & Operational targets and standards.
- Acts as first point of contact for strategic requests from a technology perspective for their scope of responsibility.
- Acts as an escalation point for issues not resolved at a lower level in relation to the delivery of technical components.
- Serves as a liaison with other IT partners for technical matters relating to their owned products (including security related aspects).
- Influence technology, product, program management and business leaders to recommend solutions and articulate trade-offs.
- Collaborate with larger the I&O and IT global organization.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for strategic decisions related to Infrastructure and Operations.
- Coach, lead and develop a team of skilled and engaged Infrastructure engineers at various levels of seniority. Sets the talent approach (i.e onboarding / development, team structure / make-up, careering pathing etc) for technical talent within the given product team(s) / technical domain(s).
What you will need
Skills / Knowledge:
- Strong experience in modern Infrastructure and Operations technologies. Including engineering expertise in Windows, Linux, Virtualization, DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code automation technologies.
- Experience in Hybrid cloud environments and infrastructure engineering practices
- Strong knowledge of the solution delivery lifecycle including project management, business requirements, application development, testing, technologies/platforms, agile development methodologies, use of product team structures, and/or other applicable methodologies
- Strong champion of Engineering practices
- Proven success in meeting business objectives/project goals and delivering technology - well organized individual able to hold people accountable for results.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work up and down the organization, able to influence others to achieve results.
- Experience with Agile methodologies with a continuous improvement and quality mindset.
- Leads team of 5 - 12 direct individual contributors (consisting of TJX Associates and contract staff; may include professional services teams) across multiple disciplines and geographies in the delivery of technical solutions over a wide variety of platforms.
Minimum Experience:
- 5+ years of managing an Infrastructure engineering team.
- Experience managing a global team in a complex, multi-national corporate setting with geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience with resource planning and management across multiple projects.
Minimum Formal Education:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science or related field.
