We are seeking a talented and experienced Tool Design Engineer specializing in Plastic Injection Molding to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing plastic injection molds, from concept through production. You will work with a cross-functional team to drive projects forward, manage customer requirements, perform mold flow analysis, and implement Design for Manufacturability (DFM) processes to ensure efficient and high-quality production. This role requires strong project management skills, technical expertise in CAD software, and an in-depth understanding of raw plastic materials.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop injection molds for plastic parts using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, andCreo.
- Create 3D models and detailed designs for molds, ensuring they meet the specifications and standards required for production.
- Lead and manage projects from initial concept through prototyping, testing, and production.
- Conduct trials and test runs on prototype molds, analyzing results and iterating designs as necessary.
- Collaborate with suppliers and production teams to refine and finalize tooling designs.
- Work on the development of plastic parts and assemblies to meet customer specifications, with a focus on functionality and manufacturability.
- Review assembly designs for ease of assembly, part fit, and function.
- Apply DFM principles to ensure that designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and optimized for injection molding.
- Perform mold flow analysis to simulate the injection process and resolve potential issues such as part defects or improper material distribution.
- Lead and manage PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) to ensure that parts meet all specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements before full-scale production begins.
- Apply knowledge of plastic raw materials and their properties to select the right material for specific applications, ensuring high performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Identify and mitigate potential risks related to design, tooling, and production, ensuring that issues are addressed before they impact timelines or costs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
