Job Description:
Chief Editor is responsible for corporate digital media creation and multi-channel publication. It is their job to develop unique and valuable content, which establishes the brand name and opens up new business opportunities. Evolving relationships between marketing, communications and content has led the role of a Chief Editor to gain more recognition in recent years.
As Chief Editor you are supposed to align all content-related activities and ensure that they become the brand voice. You invariably have to work on a content management system and knowledge management processes to scale content. The individual must be an expert in all things related to content, brand consistency, segmentation, localisation, analytics and meaningful measurement.
Responsibilities:
- Ensuring all content is consistent, in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, and optimised for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, mobile, print and in-person.
- Mapping out a content strategy that supports and extends marketing initiatives, both short and long-term, determining which methods work for the brand and why. Continuous evolution of strategy is a must.
- Supervising writers, editors, content strategists; be an arbiter of best practices in grammar, messaging, writing, and style.
- Conducting ongoing usability tests to gauge content effectiveness.
- Gather data and handle analytics (or supervise those who do) and make recommendations based on those results.
- Working with owners of particular content to revise and measure particular content and marketing goals.
- Developing standards, systems and best practices (both human and technological) for content creation, distribution, maintenance, content retrieval and content repurposing, including the real time implementation of content strategies.
- Establishing workflow for requesting, creating, editing, publishing, and retiring content.
- Work with the technical team to implement an appropriate Content Management System.
- Conducting periodic competitive audits.
Requirements:
- A degree in communications, public relations, or English.
- At least 10 years experience in content creation, including journalism or publishing.
- Experience in writing thought leadership articles.
- An excellent understanding of the publishing requirements for digital platforms.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Vast knowledge in growing audiences and establishing target audiences.
- Outstanding written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to converse and write in more than one language.
- Experience managing a team of writers.
