Job Summary: The Duty Doctor provides comprehensive medical care to patients during their assigned shifts, managing a range of medical conditions and emergencies. This role involves assessing patient needs, delivering treatment, and coordinating with healthcare teams to ensure effective and timely care. The Duty Doctor must be adept at handling acute and chronic conditions in a fast-paced environment.
Patient Care:- Conduct thorough medical assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
Diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions, including acute emergencies and chronic illnesses.- Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic tests and imaging studies.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and follow-up care.
Respond promptly to medical emergencies and critical situations.- Stabilize and manage patients in emergency settings, including resuscitation and triage.
Coordinate with emergency response teams and other medical personnel as needed.
- Documentation and Communication:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and progress notes.- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff about diagnoses, treatments, and care plans.
Ensure clear and concise handovers to the next shift or care provider.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure cohesive patient care.- Participate in case discussions, multidisciplinary team meetings, and care planning sessions.
Coordinate referrals to specialists or other healthcare services as necessary.
- Compliance and Quality Assurance:
Adhere to hospital protocols, medical standards, and regulatory requirements.- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuous medical education.
Ensure compliance with infection control practices and safety procedures.
- Patient and Family Interaction:
Provide clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and prognosis to patients and their families.- Address patient concerns and questions with empathy and professionalism.
Support patients and families through difficult or complex medical decisions.
Complete and review medical orders, prescriptions, and discharge instructions.- Participate in administrative tasks related to patient care and departmental operations.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA or local regulations.
Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
