The Role
We are seeking a visionary Director of Engineering to spearhead our engineering efforts, the most senior technical role within the organization. This role demands a strategic leader capable of driving both innovative product development and enhancing our established answering service operations. You will oversee a diverse team of approximately 300 professionals, including software developers, IT staff, and QA teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the transformation of our engineering organization to support both SaaS and legacy operations.
- Establish and enforce best practices and standards, assess team capabilities, and lead necessary restructuring and training initiatives.
- Drive strategic decision-making with key stakeholders, contributing significantly to the product roadmap.
- Anticipate future technology trends to strategically position the organization for innovation and growth.
- Manage and optimize technical debt and architectural frameworks to maintain high development standards.
- Collaborate regularly from the company's office in Chennai with frequent visits to global business units, including Scotland and Poland.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience leading large (200+), multicultural engineering teams.
- Proven track record as the main engineering leader managing the entire engineering organization.
- Deep familiarity with modern software development practices and architectures.
- Practical understanding of micro-frontend architecture.
- Experience managing product engineering across multiple products and services, integrating new and legacy systems.
- Ability to drive cultural changes within large organizations, enhancing IT delivery, team morale, and business alignment.
- Experience in introducing and improving engineering metrics, such as DORA metrics.
- Proven expertise in enhancing operational excellence in recruitment, performance management, career development, and health checks.
- Outstanding communication skills with a minimum of C1 English language proficiency, adept at rebuilding trust and securing stakeholder buy-in during periods of significant change.
Good to Have:
- Knowledge of Java, React, Google Cloud Platform, and AWS.
- Comprehensive knowledge of automated and manual QA processes.
- Good understanding of contact center solutions.
