Under the general direction of the Executive Chef and within established hospital and departmental guidelines, the Materials Specialist receives and stocks food and dry storage items for the foodservice department. Alongside the Executive Chef, the material specialist will be the point person for all stocked and inventoried items to our cooks, patient service, and retail staff. Receives and stores deliveries to designated areas within the foodservice Department and our satellite Starbucks unit onsite. Acts as liaison between Executive Chef and vendor delivery personnel. Reconciles deliveries with purchase order and notifies Executive Chef of any discrepancies, damaged product, or shortages.
Receives and inspects all food and dry storage deliveries to ensure accuracy and quality of items.
- Verify that the delivered products match the purchase orders and meet quality standards.
- Reports any discrepancies, damages, shortages, or quality issues to the Executive Chef.
- Processes deliveries by putting away all items in their designated areas following proper food safety storage guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of all incoming deliveries and routinely perform quality and temperature checks.
- Organize storage areas for easy access and efficient inventory management.
- Exercises appropriate body mechanics, care and caution when handling and delivering materials.
- Follows Hospital, JCAHO, Departmental and DPH guidelines and procedures.
- Monitors Expirations dates of all stored items to maintain freshness and prevent waste.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, suppliers, delivery personnel, and kitchen staff.
- Collaborate with kitchen team to understand their needs and help make sure they have the items to complete their daily menus.
- Maintains cleanliness of all food storage areas daily and performs deep cleaning projects based on established cleaning schedules.
- Organizes and coordinates any returns with Executive Chef and vendors.
- Orders Bakery and dairy items based on delivery schedules and established pars.
- Helps perform monthly inventory with Executive Chef.
- Performs other light kitchen duties outlined by Executive Chef when there are no deliveries, cleaning projects are completed, or we are shorthanded.
- Implement and enforce food safety and sanitation guidelines of all food storage areas.
