A desktop support engineer's job is to provide technical support to users of computers and software systems. Some of their responsibilities include:
- Troubleshooting: Investigating issues with hardware and software, such as error messages, system logs, and application logs. They may test hardware and software to identify faulty components.
- Installation: Setting up desktop hardware and installing software and operating system updates.
- Technical support: Providing technical support to users in person or remotely. They may also customize desktop applications to suit user needs.
- Network management: Maintaining network connectivity and troubleshooting network issues.
- Documentation: Keeping records of support provided, job tickets, and maintenance tasks. They may also create technical manuals and reports.
- Training: Training users on how to use computer hardware and software.
- Communication: Interacting with users, clients, and co-workers. They may also communicate with account managers to identify new opportunities.
- Asset management: Managing asset databases and disposing of equipment.
- Research: Keeping up with the latest developments in computing technology
