Job Description

Job Purpose (Significance Of The Role & Objectives)

We are looking for an experienced Automotive Trim Designer with expertise in designing and developing sunroof mechanisms, headliners, instrumental panels, door trims, pillar trims, and other plastic parts for injection molding and thermoforming processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of design for assembly (DFA), design for serviceability (DFS), design for manufacturability (DFM), and design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA). This is a full-time position that requires creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities And Deliverables

  • Design and develop automotive trim components, including sunroof mechanisms, headliners, door trims, instrumental panels, pillar trims & other plastic components.
  • Use CAD software to create 3D models, perform simulations, and create technical drawings for manufacturing.
  • Conduct DFMEA to identify potential design flaws and mitigate risks.
  • Develop DFA and DFS strategies to optimize the assembly and serviceability of the products.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure that designs are optimized for production and assembly.
  • Collaborate with other designers and engineers to develop innovative solutions that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Perform material selection and testing to ensure that components meet functional and aesthetic requirements.
  • Attend project meetings, communicate progress, and provide technical support to other team members.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in automotive trim design.

Desired Qualifications: Required Qualification, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 1 - 2 years of experience in automotive trim design, with a focus on sunroof mechanisms, headliners, and plastic parts.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software, preferably Catia or Siemens NX.
  • Knowledge of injection molding and thermoforming processes.
  • Experience with DFA, DFS, DFMEA, and DFM methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to ensure designs meet functional, aesthetic, and cost targets.
  • Create and manage design documentation, including BOMs, GD&T, and engineering change orders.
