An opportunity exists to join our pharmacy team, based at Borders General Hospital, providing services throughout NHS Borders. The deputy aseptic pharmacist role will develop skills in the management of aseptic services. This role may develop to be the operational lead for the delivery of systemic anticancer medicines through homecare, purchasing in of premade products and oral chemotherapy. You will also provide pharmaceutical care to patients within cancer and palliative care.

The postholder will work closely with specialist pharmacists and local multidisciplinary teams, also contributing to the developing role of technicians and pharmacy support staff. You will promote robust medicines governance, patient safety initiatives and future developments such as electronic medicines management.

You should have relevant clinical or operational experience and have completed the post registration foundation training scheme or demonstrate evidence of experience equivalent to that level. You will be encouraged to undertake continuous professional development or further postgraduate study depending on your level of experience and needs.

The position will include involvement in weekend and out of hours pharmacy services.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
