Database Administrator

Job Summary:

The Database Administrator (DBA) responsible for Incident management, DB administration and 24x7 for support Rakuten Internal Stakeholders for various databases. The candidate should have a strong understanding of database management, data integrity, security, and optimization. Should work round the clock (24x7) work closely with Rakuten internal teams and stakeholders to ensure their DBs are functioning efficiently and securely.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Management

• Handle DBA related alerts and incidents, work round the clock (24x7, on call support) and good knowledge in ensuring data integrity, security, and optimal performance.
• Troubleshooting skills on database-related issues and implement solutions to resolve them by following Standard Operating Procedures.
• Participate in stakeholder meetings and address stakeholder technical queries and concerns.
• Know how to create and maintain documentation for troubleshooting procedures, system configurations, and best practices.
• Share knowledge with team members to enhance collective technical expertise.
• Administration, Incident management and maintain high availability for databases, optimizing schemas and tables.

Performance Tuning: Knowledge on monitor set up and optimizing database performance, queries, and indexing for efficiency and speed.

Backup and Recovery: Knowledge on backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.

Security: Good knowledge on data security measures such as access controls, encryption, and auditing.

Maintenance: Knowledge on performing regular database maintenance tasks like upgrades, patches, software updates etc.

Troubleshooting: Good troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner.

Data Integrity: Knowledge on how to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and quality across databases.

Documentation: Documentation skills on repeated Incidents, database configurations, policies, and procedures for reference and training purposes.

Collaboration: Work with Rakuten Internal stakeholders, Incident management team, network team, and other Rakuten In-house teams to ensure database needs are met and DB system function smoothly.

Compliance: Knowledge to ensure DB's comply with regulatory requirements and policies. Reporting: Skills to generate reports on DB performance, capacity, usage etc.

Qualifications:

• BE, MCA, bachelors degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Proven experience as a DBA, with hands-on experience with [specific DBMS, e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Cassandra, MariaDB, Couch-base, Mongo DB etc.].
• In-depth understanding of database design, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
• Strong knowledge of database security practices and compliance standards.
• Experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash, python, PL/SQL, or T-SQL.
• Proficiency with backup and recovery procedures and tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
