Data Visualization Designer

BBY India is seeking two Data Visualization Designers to manage a portfolio of visualization that will help build high quality standards and practices across Best Buy. You will be the creative force to design innovative ways to leverage visualization for the business to solve meaningful problems. You'll leverage your visualization experience to drive a process that will help us rapidly build high quality dashboards in Power BI, Looker Studio, and possibly other tools. You'll design according to Best Buy design standards, prioritize through an agile intake/prioritization process, participate in design governance review sessions and work as part of a domain-focused integrated pod with engineering, product and data quality stewards. Bottom line, you will support the business in a particular domain to better story tell leveraging outstanding visualization that you will both wireframe and if needed build. You will be the expert on design experience in your domain.

You'll play a key role as part of a broader team of data visualization professionals while embracing inclusive behaviors, clarifying and working through ambiguous requests, demonstrating strong attention to detail, wireframing and building quickly quality visual solutions, and thriving in a fast-paced environment.

You have experience in working in large, global, collaborative, and cross-functional organizations and understand the challenges of working across time zones. You are an expert in data storytelling, combining the analytics from standardized data with a narrative through visualization. You will also have GCC experience in working as part of a global team based in India for US-based company. You have excellent creative design and wireframe skills, understand the value of white space, and have experience in building dashboards both back-end and front-end in common COTS visual tools like Power BI. You will also be a key participant in our design review process, ensuring quality visualization across the organization. Most importantly, you know how to work with technical and non-technical business partners alike, acting as a trusted advisor and partner in gathering clear requirements, pushing back where warranted, and helping them craft an effective data story.

Team Overview

The Data and AI enablement teams are enabling capabilities to accelerate end to end data and AI adoption across Advanced Analytics, Product Teams, and Best Buy Sales and Operations Teams. The broader team is responsible for data strategy, availability, and adoption via self-service tools including AI model registry, activation of models for business, multichannel testing, customer relationship measurement. This team is committed to delivering the right data and AI solutions following the guidelines provided in our Responsible AI principles.

The Data Strategy and Visualization Team is an organization that drives Best Buy's approach to end-to-end data strategy, starting with data quality, lineage, ethics and governance so the data is trustworthy, building quality visualizations so the data can be leveraged, and driving adoption through training and data literacy. The team's role is to help Best Buy leverage data as fuel for the enterprise through high quality data. The team partners with data engineering, data product and AI/ML teams to get visual products right, and network across the entire company to help benefit through quality data and insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of visualization work across a particular domain
• Create innovative and effective visual designs, leveraging storytelling skills to visually combine data with narrative. This will involve wireframing and storyboarding
• Leverage and help improve Best Buy design style and standards, maintained in the Best Buy style guide for dashboards
• Take requirements and not just build, but wireframe and push back to better tell the story
• Work collaboratively as the visualization expert as part of a cross-functional pod including data engineering, data stewards, and data product managers.
• Leverage and participate in a governance design review for all dashboards prior to publishing
• When complete, knowledge transfer into a long-term monitoring and support model
• Be available to communicate and teach best practices in visualization theory and tools such as Power BI and Tableau
• Participate in daily standups and update the broader team on challenges and roadblocks
• Understand and build according to efficient data practices, including Star schemas

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in informatics, Analytics, Graphic Design, Statistics, Finance, or related field or relevant experience. Including:
• 5+ years of experience in visualization including coding, wireframing, data modeling and solution architecture
• 5+ experience in UI/UX or visualization design
• 3+ years working in/with data science/analytics
• Experience working with different customers/organizations in helping them solve business problems through visualization tools
• Experience in creating wireframes for BI dashboards in Figma or similar design product
• Excellent coding experience in visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, and Looker
• Excellent experience with design tools like Figma and Miro
• Experience in data storytelling
• Excellent people and technical skills
• GCC experience with a US-based company
• Experience in working in agile environments, including familiarity with scrums, Kanban, and Jira

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of cloud-based data environments (GCP)
• Experience and understanding of semantic layers and assets
• Work experience in consulting or business-focused support
• Knowledge and/or experience in the retail/services business
