JOB SUMMARY:
Principal responsibilities
The Data Modeller and Data Architect role provides data management consultancy and best practice guidance to project teams and within the architecture community.
The Data modeller/Architect is responsible for the driving the delivery of assorted models.
Conceptual models to aid understanding and input to the Universal Data Model (UDM)
Logical models to prepare development teams for delivering physical underlying structures.
Semantic models to promote data delivery consistency.
Design end to end data design for source to target data pipelines including data model design
Should be able to deliver all the artifacts required for Data Architect and design and need to get it approved from respective stake holders.
Should be well versed with data governance and best practices for data Architect and Data modeling.
Implement business and IT data requirements through new data strategies and designs across all data platforms (relational, dimensional, and NoSQL) and data tools (reporting, visualization, analytics, and machine learning).
Work with business and application/solution teams to implement data strategies, build data flows, and develop conceptual/logical/physical data models
Define and govern data modeling and design standards, tools, best practices, and related development for enterprise data models.
Identify the architecture, infrastructure, and interfaces to data sources, tools supporting automated data loads, security concerns, analytic models, and data visualization.
Hands-on modeling, design, configuration, installation, performance tuning, and sandbox POC.
Work proactively and independently to address project requirements and articulate issues/challenges to reduce project delivery risks.
Data flow diagrams and data mappings as appropriate to the context may also be required. These artefacts are aligned with group standards, IT and business strategy, meet business objectives and satisfy all relevant regulatory and operational risk controls.
INTERNAL
1. Rapidly understanding business requirements through regular interactions with the CMB Chief Data Office (CDO), business users and other subject matter experts.
2. Translation of business requirements into solution designs and functional requirements.
3. Communication of functional solutions to the development team plus ongoing support of the developers as needed.
4. Working closely with the production support team to ensure all new software is well understood and readily supported.
5. Active promotion of data architecture, best practice techniques, standards and tools
6. Active contribution to Project/System Data Architecture Solution definition and documentation including adherence to Group standards
Requirements
At least 8 years Logical Data Modelling skills
Experience of Financial Services and specifically within data domains / functions (e.g. Data Management, Data Architecture, Data Governance)
Demonstrable knowledge of Data Management tools and techniques
Good working knowledge of relevant tools e.g. IBM Infosphere Data Architect or CA Erwin Data Modeler
Experience of eliciting, documenting and verifying requirements for the use of data across the HSBC organisation (Global Businesses and Global Functions) as appropriate to project scope
Experience of working within a large, complex and geographically dispersed projects (including across time zones)
Previous experience as a data analyst, solutions analyst or architect including delivery of data artefacts e.g. data models, data flow diagrams & metadata would be beneficial
Proven strength in conceptual and logical thinking, ability to abstract information and look at the bigger picture.
Proven analysis skills with the ability to challenge designs / decisions.
Experience in managing and resolving complex issues using proven analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to quickly get up to speed with the current data landscape and apply acquired analysis and data skills to new contexts and approaches
Building relationships and networking, with high levels of motivation and collaboration
Excellent spoken and written communication skills. A strong ability to communicate virtually e.g. conference calls and video conferencing
Strong leadership and an ability to articulate, present and obtain approval for solutions at the right level for a wide audience (IT and Business)
Strong planning, organisation and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to work to deadlines
Commercial acumen and ability to apply this to Business and IT data requirements
A track record of consistently looking for ways to do things better and a good understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change
Self-awareness and with the confidence to work independently
